Re: scam

Cameras are in the top ten scammed item on ebay.  You might want to get a LOT more experience selling low dollar items before you drop a high risk item on ebay.

All buyers have 100% feedback - it is impossible for a seller to give them anything else.

ebay doesn't care until you have been scammed, they took away every method to report a buyer until you are in an actual transaction with them.  And then will not look at the reports until someone draws attention to the buyer.

Sounds like a hacked account.

Re: scam

Tell them you won't do it. Cancel for bad address.

making offers immediately is not againt eBay policy.

Being willing to pay straight away is not against eBay policy.

Wanting you to ship to Lagos is not against policy.

Buying presents for relatives is not against eBay policy.

Having 100% feedback is not against eBay policy.

Being a member for 13 years is not against eBay policy.

What would you report them for?

Re: scam

There is no category of "most scammed".  Most posts on the board are by sellers who cannot afford to absorb the loss of one single item.  Most eBay sales occur with NO PROBLEMS.  Do not rely on board posts to believe that there is any such "most scammed" category!

If you get paid and get an address in the paypal payment that you do ship to, you have to ship it!

Re: scam

I think you have plenty of feedback and also enough feedback as a seller. I have plenty of experience as a seller of photography items. For the most part I feel it to be a safe field to sell in. There are scams in any field but generally it's a safe environment. It used to be much better when I could see a buyers history. I always felt quite comfortable when I saw that a buyer specialied in what I was selling. That said you still have to careful, as it looks from this thread.

I always block Africa, South and Central America, Romania, Russia and Italy. I've sold a lot to Italy including a couple used Nikon 80-200mm f2.8's for over $600. But then I heard too many reports about their postal system, same with Russia. I used to sell a lot of marginal lenses to Russia to the same buyer who I guess was repairing and/or cleaning them.

If your hair stands up about a potential bidder there's a reason for that. Listen to your own caution. You might want to cancel and relist these items.

Re: scam

The "present for relative" is what would make me look at this very carefully.

If you choose to take their offer make very, very, VERY sure that you LOGIN to your paypal account to confirm that the payment has been FULLY processed and paypal says it's OK to ship.

You may receive emails that appear to be from paypal stating that the payment is complete, or will be completed when the item ships.  DO NOT believe this.  Only ship when your paypal account says to ship now.

Re: scam

Do you ship to Nigeria? If so, and they are willing to pay right away, why didn't they? Oh, wait, they need your email address so they can send a fake Paypal payment email...

Sort of depends on how exactly they are offering to pay straight away.

Re: scam

In my mind I'm having trouble deciding which is the worst country to sell to. Is it Romania or Nigeria. Lagos is a city in Liberia. Why worry about which is worst. I would NEVER sell or ship to either country. 99.99 percent likely that a buyer from Nigeria IS a scammer.

What was said earlier about the scammers in Nigeria is accurate. They send a fake eMail that you were over paid, OH WAIT I overpaid please send me a money order for any excess shipping paid. So they want to get your item for free and they want some cash to handle the expense of the scam.

These are the same people who do the "Your relative died here and were looking for his heirs, please send big money to handle our expenses" scam.

Re: scam

You made the mistake I made in my first post. You believed Google. The truth, which is what we need here:

Wikipedia:

Lagos is a city in the Nigerian state of Lagos. The city, with its adjoining conurbation, is the largest in Nigeria, as well as on the African continent. It is one of the fastest growing in the world, and also one of the most populous urban agglomerations. Lagos is a major financial centre in Africa; the megacity has the highest GDP,and also houses one of the largest and busiest ports on the continent.

Re: scam

Likely a hacked account.

Is the feedback more than a year old?

Are the sellers the FB refers to selling anything like your cameras?

Is there FB left for others recently? Again recently means in the past year.

That is what to report-- that the account has been hacked.

Just list the items as BuyItNow with Immediate Payment Required, and you won't hear this particular payment scam again.
