Last night I received a call from *****, let it go to VM and later listened to a computer generated message, something like Hi, this is eBay calling for XXXXXXX(Full 1st and last name), please call Michael **** or log into eBay.
I just found this website and says it's an eBay debt collection scam? Anyone else seen this, it is almost end of month and I do have a -$4.48 for shipping label after payout....but not enough for eBay to waste time calling looking for less than $5.

It sounds like a call I got last week from my bank saying I had two charges against my account that they were questioning if they were mine. I talked to them and they gave me a link, DIRECTLY TO MY BANK, to log in. Thank God they wanted to send me a text to my phone, for "verification" but it didn't go through. 4x we tried. I called my son down and he tried and he said something was fishy so he hung up on the guy and said come on ma, we are going to the bank. Long story short, it's a scam. They did use not only the phone number of the bank but the links were directly to it too so they are sophisticated enough to contact you. They knew my username, phone number and email info but they did not know my password. My advice? Change your password on your ebay account and any of your payout accounts associated with it. As far as I know, ebay only contacts us through here with a copy going to email if you chose that option in notifications. They certainly don't call.

Thanks for the heads-up.
These scam calls, texts, and emails are becoming more frequent across the board.
I really feel for people who aren't tech savvy and can easily fall for these.

You made your own connection to your bank, right? Phoned them yourself or logged in to their website yourself, right? I got a bit lost in your description, and it sounds a little like you followed a link or dialed a number that this unknown caller gave you, which would have been a really bad idea.

If you owe Ebay money, don't know if I'd call it a scam call.

The OP is an active seller. Any fees they may owe would be auto deducted from the money when a buyer pays. How would they accrue a balance owed to Ebay?

Maybe they didn't have the avaliable funds to cover the shipping label?

I wouldn't say that the OP's sales are booming; they're more like low and steady, so it's certainly possible that they are incurring fees at a faster rate than the occasional sale (not to mention the refund for out of stock that yielded an unfortunate Neg in feedback).
My mentee record seller has the occasional dry spell in between sales for which he gets billed small amounts, not from promoted listings (which he doesn't do) but from 25¢ auction listing fees.

Normally on the 1st, they bill me for the store, but there's usually pending funds (at very least) so they don't charge my card.
I was shut down on March 1, the payout happened and no more sales so there was zeros across the board. They billed my card for the store fee that same day. I would think there would be a banner on your account or a notice from eBay for a balance owed, not a phone call.

I don't see that with the items they sold. But I could have missed something. However I'm pretty confident it was a scam call.

Its best to assume any unusual contacts like this are scams, and then your usual channels to verify authenticity, never use the contacts in the unusual messages.
