scam address

I sold a 360 camera. After researching the eBay forum site, I found that the address has a story. I did contact an eBay representative who advised me not to send a camera and to cancel the transaction. It's what I did. After that, I received negative feedback from buyer, saying I canceled the transaction for no reason. In the Refund, I saw an international shipping involvement. Shipping from Florida to Delaware? All that looks like a scam.

The only thing I do not understand is why eBay is letting scammers leave negative feedback. And why is eBay doing nothing to that kind of address? eBay is charging fees, fees are growing, and services are getting worse. eBay MUST protect loyal customers and support them. I'm 24 years with eBay, and now I got negative feedback from a scammer.

@alkophoto

some use the freight forwarder addresses for "no good", but the majority of transactions go just fine.

buyer is able to leave feedback as you likely cancelled the sale without just cause following the advice of a poorly trained CSR, ................................... disappointing a reputable buyer

ETA:  that buyer (on eBay for 14 years) has more positive feedback than you do as a buyer

I'm curious, if a scammer gets a personal mailbox at the UPS store and scams you does that make it a 'scam address'.

These types of addresses handle multiple clients, not all are scammers.

You have no clue if this person is a scammer or not, all you know is they are a foreigner using a company that has had some reports of scams taking place.

There are reviews that eBay is a scam.... Does that make it true because scammers do use eBay? No.

It was probably a 'freight forward' from Delaware to country of buyer.

Did you look at country of ID eBay buyer?
I have had no problems with 'freight forward' from Delaware or Florida to another country like Colombia, etc...

However, I must admit it was an expensive item? So I can't say you made a mistake.

When I listed an expensive item in the past I posted it as domestic shipping only and also mentioned no freight forward shipping on the item.

Some here might say you did wrong to cancel it. It's your item and you have the right to cancel the sale.

The feedback : I would have waited to respond to it by coming on here first than responding to the feedback.

Customer service doesn't always know the answers. It's a shame you listened to them.

That's a freight forwarder used by a lot of honest International buyers.

Not a scam address, but some bad International buyers do use it.

Have a great day.

AS you can see by posts on this thread, experienced Ebay sellers do not find shipments to freight forwarders to be of greater risk than other sales.

You earned your negative FB.

1. You cancelled for no good reason.

2. You listened to an Ebay representative who had no business giving you this advice. It is not within his area of training. It is not within his experience. It promotes a negative attitude of buyers to Ebay and its sellers.

Edit your thread to remove all identification of the buyer, before the moderators do.

You can't refuse a sale like that.  Those reps are only allowed so much time per caller.  They will say anything if it will get you off the line before the call times out and they get a supervisor on their tail.   The word tail was chosen only so the mods won't remove it.

"In the Refund, I saw an international shipping involvement."  - No you didn't.
You may have seen your International Seller Fee being refunded to you, but I guarantee you didn't see anything about international shipping, because as you said yourself, the delivery address was in the U.S.

By the way, if you've been selling for 24 years, I don't know how you didn't know about freight forwarders already.  You have surely sold lots of items that were delivered to FF facilities many, many times without knowing it.  They are mostly in Deleware, New Jersey, Florida, Oregon and California.

I would bet a Canadian nickel that the "scam address" is a freight forwarder in a strip mall in Delaware, Oregon, or Florida.

And you saw some Yelp reviews about the company.

Freight forwarders are used by overseas buyers when US based sellers are nervous of shipping overseas.

EBay not only allows this, but has its own freight forwarding service, eBay International Shipping.

Forwarded shipments have more Seller Protection than shipments sent directly to the customer.

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/ebay-money-back-guarantee-policy/ebay-money-back-guarantee-policy...

Delaware and Oregon are not only coastal with good overseas shipping infrastructure, but do not charge state sales taxes, which saves the seller money on eBay fees. Florida is mostly used by Caribbean, Central and South American buyers.

These businesses have hundreds or even thousands of customers. Some of those clients will be crooks. This may be the responsibility of the business but it is not their fault.

Forwarders will take care of customs forms, import fees, tracking and shipping for their clients. They charge for the service. You don't have to worry about any thing except shipping to a US address, and your responsibility basically ends at that doorstep.
