I had a buyer want to return an item. He did but did not start the request through Ebay. He returned the item to me, what to do now?

If you have received the item back in your possession,  refund them.  Sadly many buyers don't know how to start the process of a proper & legitimate return. At least you got the item back.  Many sellers do not.

If you have the option to cancel the order, cancel as buyer requested.

If not, just refund the buyer.

Some buyers are inexperienced or simply don't read the policies. The good thing is that you received your item back and you can just resell it. The transaction will show as completed because it was delivered. Send the buyer a refund and list your item again. Best of luck to you....

Been there, had that. Item came back with a note in the box.

I refunded minus my expenses. No repercussions. 

That may or not fly with your buyer.
