Did you mean:

return to sender no mail receptable unable to forward

What happened is strange
This week I received an item that I sold a long time ago
and it said
return to sender no mail receptable unable to forward return to the sender
but there is no claim nor did eBay open a case, nothing
the buyer did not send me a message
so what should I do?
not say anything? or do something?
thanks

The buyer is required to provide a secure place to receive mail/packages.

How long ago did you sell it? You can only voluntarily send a refund for up to 90 days and beyond that it isn't an option through eBay unless the buyer files a claim. The buyer has no MBG coverage here.

If it was a "long time ago" I would do nothing. If it was within the past month I'd either refund the buyer item cost less shipping/fees or do nothing unless the buyer contacts you.

Maybe the item was lost and finally found.

Maybe the buyer moved and/or died.

Don't do anything, but hold on to it for a while.

@cristian3_6

When was this transaction?

Ebay doesn't open a case, that is up to the buyer.

Ebay will not be forcing you to do anything as you are covered under seller protection as long as you shipped to the address on the buyer's payment with tracking and within your stated handling time on the transaction.

But what I always recommend to sellers, even if the buyer has not been in contact with me, I send them an email letting them know I got the package back and I refund them for the purchase less what I charged for shipping and all non refundable fees [fvf on the shipping you keep and the 40 cent per transaction fee].

You can decide for yourself, this is just what I recommend so that the buyer gets most of their money back for a product they didn't receive and you keep the appropriate amount so that you are not out any money.

Three weeks ago isn't considered a long time ago by eBay.

I will wait for the buyer to send me a message
or for eBay to open a case

I always refunded the buyer whether they contacted me or not. But an email is certainly a nice gesture.

It always seemed a little sly to keep the money and then be able to resell the exact same item.

I would not want someone to do that to me.

Wait for buyer to answer you first.

Giving a refund to someone gone...refund would probably go into the eBay summer picnic pool party.returns.JPG

I have had a few...LOL

It's strange that the buyer hasn't sent a message or opened a case
What if the money goes to other hands?
I think I'll keep the item and wait a year
If no one claims it, I can resell it

The buyer has 30 days from the last estimated date for arrival that eBay gave them to open a Dispute.

But.

EBay does not require the seller to refund anything when an item is Undeliverable.

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/ebay-money-back-guarantee-policy/ebay-money-back-guarantee-policy...

Most sellers will refund the purchase price, but not shipping or other fees.

But.

The buyer also has coverage from the chargeback process of their credit card for up to 180 days from payment.

EBay does involve itself with those disputes. Cooperate with them. EBay is basically on your side for these.

I don't think anyone would open a chargeback without first opening a case saying it didn't arrive
or not sending me a message saying it didn't arrive if eBay provides all that
The other day a buyer opened a case that didn't arrive and the tracking number said delivered
and the case went in my favor
That's why this is incomprehensible

This is the second time this has happened to me
None of the buyers have complained and the item arrived at my house again
This is very rare

Why?  First, Ebay does NOT open cases.  That would be the buyer.  Also as I said earlier, Ebay has you protected under seller protections, so if your buyer did open an INR, Ebay would not make you refund.

Why would you want to keep money that doesn't belong to you?
