Did you mean:

restrictions.

So, last month my account was restricted for 30 days for selling used socks.  Even though I followed the procedure in place at the time, i.e. washing, etc.  After I was informed of the restriction, then I was informed of the change in policy and that those items weren't allowed anymore.

Curiously today, I looked on Ebay, and there are still several listings for used socks, and many with bids.  Even having the description saying things like preowned-new.

I want to know if all these people will get restricted for 30 days, like I was....

Again, just was curious to see  if the restrictions are arbitrary or happen to everyone.  That's all.

Re: restrictions.

eBay notified you of the reason why the listings were removed, right?

Some people get caught other do not.

But that should not matter.  Sellers need to better educate themselves on the rules before listing because the excuse well someone else did it, is obviously not valid on ebay.

Re: restrictions.

There is tons of listings on ebay that are not allowed, but they have to be reported by someone and then ebay might remove the listings, they don't always remove them.

@*madison

Well it would save on the laundery bill...

Sell your dirty socks on ebay, and just buy new...

Heck do a search for cheerleader panties... they seem to sell well.

Used shoes....

I want a suit from the 1930's like... Bogart style.

In the 20 years I haqve been here, no eBay policy has ever been enforced 100% completely, 100% correctly, or 100% fairly.  Infact I would say all three numbers were closer to 50%.

Ther are a billion listings here, and I doubt eBay has the manpower, ability, or desire to inspect each one and ensure that all policies are being followed.

Re: restrictions.

i had to actually search and yep..used socks ...

i read this description... i think it made me throw up a little... come on ebay get on the ball ~!

"Up for bid is 1 pair of women's socks, size 9-11, gold toes bought from Penney's.  They have a light pale blue color along the sides of the insole.

Super comfy cotton socks - they are used and are very absorbent, which is great because I have sweaty feet.  They are also a little grubby and stained on the bottoms - see pictures.  No holes though!

I am getting in shape -- so I am running and working out a lot, so the socks are being put to good use!  I'm on a budget, so I'm still wearing them until the auction is won.  Then they will be cleaned per eBay guidelines and mailed to you in a plastic Ziploc bag."

Re: restrictions.

pingpong,

if you Google Cache search a couple of the OPs sold listings (by "Title")

you'll see his listings stated to "message him with requests"

hint hint, nudge nudge.

Not to mention his pictures.

Re: restrictions.

So report that listing. It is an obvious violation.

Yep. Any search will come up with listing violations.

As pointed out, report it.

It is absolutely impossible for an eBay employee to read each and every listing.

Getting listings off of here be it for pandering to fetishists or keyword spamming takes the community.

If it bothers you, take your time to report the listing.

Used socks are not even allowed in the adult category. Nor are used panties, boxer shorts etc. etc.

Re: restrictions.

wow... such a strong worded post to me... I know what to report and what policy says...NO need to use your big woman words to tell me..

Like you, I'll do as i see fit...I am not the Ebay police...They get paid much more to do it...and since it actually not my site, they should deal with these things and not expect members to police each and every one.... you feel feel to search and report all you want, but don't tell people what to do, when you were asked.

Re: restrictions.

I just did a search for used socks and got

19,721 results for socks used

I clicked on the first one and tried to report it. The way it is set up you could only choose from a few options for reason for report. Though  it did have prohibited items the last question ask to choose from

  • Autographed items
  • Cosmetics
  • Embargoed goods and prohibited countries
  • Lottery tickets
  • Recalled items

You can not submit the report unless you choose one of these catagories and none of them match.

That might be why over 1000 used socks have not been reported.
