Did the buyer open a claim?...
And did buyer show a photo of item broken...although a buyer doesn't have to show you...the buyer does have to post a photo next to your item when they open a claim...W.
Wait for buyer to open a claim.

If they open a Claim, you accept it and demand the return before refunding.
You can do this even if you have a No Returns policy.
Then you follow eBay's guidelines to send the buyer a Return Shipping Label.
When the unwanted item is returned, you refund.
The money will be taken from your Managed Payments balance.
Happens every day-- although in less than one percent of transactions.
If the item is not returned, you are not required to refund.
If the RSL is not used, you will eventually have the cost refunded.
If the unhappy buyer sends a picture of something so destroyed you don't want to have it back, just refund without demanding (and paying for) the Return.
It's business, not personal
Returns and refunds are tax deductible.
