I'm not aware that Shift+Click was ever an option for radio buttons or checkboxes here, but have you tried clicking the checkbox in the column head to select all rows, and then-unchecking the ones you don't want? That would be an easier strategy with fewer clicks overall, if you know that you'll be choosing more than half of the rows for whatever purpose.
