When a buyer asks you this question, do you:
1) Say "Yes"
2) Say "No"
3) Give a longer, impartial answer
4) Ignore the question

LOL, @bigdeals.etc you always bring a smile to my face with your posts....
I am one of those sellers who takes the time to answer dumb questions. Just like the one I received last month. I had a small action figure listed with 4 inches in the title, 4 " figure in the description, and one of the photos showed the figure next to a ruler, marked at 4 inches. The question was, "what is the size of this figure?"
I wrote back thanking them for their question and interest in my item, and confirmed it was a 4 inch figure. I did not point out the three spots where my listing said this, I answered as if I hadn't pointed out the size. She ended up purchasing the figure from me and left me positive FB. Sometimes it works to placate them.
Please keep posting as you do, we all need it. Best of luck to you....

Oh I agree with you about answering "dumb questions" when there is a clear cut answer. But my point in my OP is that the question is HIGHLY subjective. This is one where I need the gift of hindsight right now, lol.

Some customers who have been poorly treated in the past will ask a "stupid" question to see how they might be treated this time if things go skeequaw.
If the question is also illiterate (poor spelling, worse grammar) I will Block them.

That would be about 50% of my messages from buyers, lol. I'm not saying sellers are any better with this neither. I've seen some seller's listings and whoa baby.

You know I have often thought this same thing, that the silly question is being sent purposely to either bait the seller or confirm kindness. Thank you for posting that....

You are correct, your question is totally subjective. I would select your #3 and give a long explanation of how it feels to myself....

I give a sort of non-answer to those questions. I have no idea what item the buyer's questioning, but I'd go with a variation of this:
Buyer,
Soft is subjective so this is always a very difficult question to answer. My opinion may be different from yours. That said, I think this cotton/polyester blend t-shirt is of average softness. It's not rough or stiff, but it's not super soft like modal fabric. Keep in mind that it will get softer over time with washing. I hope this helps.

I only Block if the person obviously has English (of some sort) as a first language. Heaven knows my second language can be iffy.
But if you want a question answered, why not proofread it and correct your mistakes?

Sigh... yea, with the average American's grammar and spelling skills I fear correct English will soon be a dead language like Latin. But hey, we can always amend the dictionaries to suit our needs right?

It isn't a dumb question though, It's a question I have been asked many times, and I have asked the question myself.
I can't stand rough material, if I buy any clothes online, I always have to make sure they are soft.
I bought a sofa last year, I asked the seller if the seating was soft, he replied and said no it's firm and quite hard. I loved the sofa, and I almost bought it, but my sofa has to be soft, so I'm glad I asked the question. I did find a soft sofa I liked and bought that instead.
It's an important question for many people, and it's not difficult to answer it with the truth.

No one except the person holding the item could answer that question.

LOL I feel for you at times. I apparently offended a customer last week when I answered a question as soon as I woke up. I replied "If it is not shown in the pictures or listing then there is nothing on the back".
She took serious offense to this. I apologized for my "rudeness" I was just being common sense and straight forward.
