Did you mean:

"How much is the least you'll accept for your widget?"

I sent an offer to someone last night, and they replied back a little while later to ask "how much is the least you'll take" and then blah blah blah, I really want it, it's a present, it would make my mom so happy if she could have it.

That reminds me of that vendor at the market where I used to live who had a table where nothing was priced. And some young person would approach the table looking for a gift for their family member. The vendor would say "how much money do you have?" and then "wow, it's your lucky day, that's how much it costs." Totally sickening to witness this... at the market, all my stuff had prices, and I gave coupons for discounts to get customers to come back.

Anyway, about my would be buyer...

1. If it's a gift and your mother would really like it, why are you haggling over a few cents? The thing doesn't cost that much. (I believe it was a $10 item). Funny thing about that, they tell me what they want it for to try and guilt me into taking less money, but when someone tells me they really want something or what they're doing with it, my opinion is that then price should not matter that much if buying it is so important to you. (And no one NEEDS anything that I sell... it's all extras).

2. I told the would be buyer he already got his offer with my best price earlier in the evening. I don't have counteroffer on with sending offers because I send my best price when i send an offer (and that's my best price today, when I have less of them, or they aren't selling, the price may change), I am not willing to negotiate a better price because that defeats the purpose of me sending my best price in an offer.

"This is not Nordstroms."

Yeh I was referring to someone you have never dealt with asking for the least amount straight off the bat. Repeat buyers who buy often yeh I would deal with them.

Maybe I am dense, but I don't understand.

You (potential buyer) sent an offer to a seller for something you want to buy.

The seller messaged back and said "how much is the least you'll take".

That sounds like a question that a buyer would ask a seller, not a question asked of a buyer by the seller.

Maybe I've not yet had enough coffee?

Why does this kind of thing bother sellers so much. No reply needed. Move on.

I truly do not get why anything like this is worth more than the time to read it.

A reply may be needed. You will notice in your inventory on the far left, the drop down top option will change to “answer messages” if someone has sent a message you haven’t responded to. So the system attaches to the item a flag that a message has been ignored. So at the very least it knows the item has an unanswered question. I feel like this could negatively impact its search standing. If I ignore a stupid question or statement I also end the item and sell similar.

For everything that happens conditions exist such that nothing else could have happened.

Haggling has been a part of commerce for thousands of years. It sounds like those "young people" learned a valuable life lesson and all it cost was their pocket money!

And what do you reply when the message is Thanks or OK?

Thank you for your Thanks?

Use the drop-down and check "mark as answered".

Though I seriously doubt that an unanswered question has any effect on search placement, it's better to just resolve it.

I usually ignore or maybe respond that they have 4 attempts to make an offer. I believe even more as long as seller does not decline each one (let offer expire). I may also do some research on similar items listed just for knowledge and maybe share with the potential buyer that others are asking a higher price and I'm the cheapest already (if it fits).

Trends change quickly and if you have a lot listed, it can be extra work.

I sent the potential buyer an offer. I'm the seller.

OK.I might have understood it better if the buyer's entire message had been enclosed in quotes.

Sorry, communication is not something I'm great at. It's common that people misread my posts.. I'll try better next time.

Re: "How much is the least you'll accept for your widget?"

My biggest pet peeve is people who want to pay .05 less than any price you can list at. And if you listed at .05 they'd want it for free.

I gave up doing yard sales, and just put stuff out marked " free" . It drove me crazy to have someone offer to pay half for a one dollar item. Wasn't even worth my time to walk it out to the curb for trash pick up.

I usually don't even do offers on here. If I see an item I want, I pay what is asked. I'm pretty sure the price marked is what the seller wants to get and just go from there.
