"Buyer did not recognize transaction" claim filed with buyers bank

Today i got an ebay message stating a claim outside of eBay had been started and my payments funds have been put on hold.

The claim stated that the buyer did not recognize the transaction (im guessing this applies to stolen credit cards or similar situations)

The item was delivered the 24th with no problems, so i contacted the buyer and asked him what was going on.

All he told me was " Cable was missing", so i asked him why he filed a "fraudulent type" claim with his bank, and again he told me cable was missing with no other explanation which annoyed the f out of me.

I responded the claim with the tracking info which showed the item was successfully delivered.

So basically in my eBay messages he admits he received the item.

My problem is that he started a claim outside of ebay, which if he wins i guess he keeps the product and the money.

I told him that he was backed by eBay money back guarantee and i would accept a refund or return, or simply pay for the missing cable (its 7-10 dollars), his last message stated that he DIDNT want a refund and that he wanted the cable,  to which i told him to star a ebay refund, and after that he stopped responding.

Im confused by his actions & goals, he states he wants the cable, but before contacting me about it he filed a claim with his bank.

What i wanna know is:

1) Is there any chance i might lose the case?  I provided the tracking number but that's all I could do.

2) Can i use the messages he sent as proof he received it?

As i said I dont mind refunding him, i just dont wanna lose both the product and the money (the product is a $250 dollar steering wheel)

Note: I didn't add the option for signature upon delivery

If there is evidence in the messages they sent you that they got the item and they told you that and that they are upset becuase an alleged cable is missing then it cannot be a legitimate “did not recognize transaction claim”. They are bypassing Ebay for some reason, maybe a bogus chargeback, and perhaps they have exhausted their Ebay money back guarantee privileges becuase they have pulled scams or did too many return requests etc. Call Ebay and go over all the nuances with this situation. Once a chargeback is filed they are very very hard to win without proper representation of your case. Make sure they represent you properly with as much evidence as possible.

Yes, he states that he received it without the cable, meaning he bought it and received it.

So that should null the "Transaction not recognized by buyer: claim right?

Logically speaking, you would be correct.  However, this is eBay where none of that applies.  Here is the page regarding what is needed when a buyer files a payment dispute of the sort you received:

https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/getting-paid/handling-payment-disputes-managed-payments-seller?id=...

If you satisfy the conditions, you should eventually prevail.  eBay will not close the case early anymore and release your funds, usually with the excuse they have to wait for the decision of the payment processor even if you are obviously covered under seller protection.  Should you eventually get thrown under the bus with anything that resembles "it was the credit card company and nothing we could do" mantra  keep that information above handy for your appeal.

Actually, your buyer filed the claim with the wrong reason that will not automatically result in his getting the item for free at your expense.  Let us know how it turns out.
