"Authorized Retailer"?

A recent ebay search brought back a list of items and on that list some of the sellers were "Authorized Retailers".  What is that?  Aren't we all Authorized Retailers?

I used to live in Philly and they had sneaker wars..The asian men  selling sneakers wanted only the best sneakers.back in the 90`s if you were an authorised retailer you were given credit to buy sneakers fromn the makers.

the sneaker stores with no credit were jealous of the ones with credit and would turn them in as unauthorised dealers of top name sneakers

It means you have a contract to purchase items from the manufacturer. Your stuff comes directly from them.

No, most people here are not "authorized retailers". That takes being in an agreement with a manufacture/distributor. 

Now IF all the sellers that claim to be, ACTUALLY are, I don't know. I don't personally know if anyone is actually vetting these people claiming to be. Though if these items are on the VeRO list, that would be playing with fire, IMO. 

Bottom line for me, don't claim to be something you are not.

Can also come from authorized distributors of the manufacturer and you would have an product invoice and written agreement with the distributor or manufacturer.

Regardless of what the term means in the "real world", if it appears on the eBay site in the eBay search results, then it is a designation that eBay has assigned to those sellers. 

I cannot find any official information on the eBay site, but I suspect that eBay has an arrangement with large brands where those brands can notify eBay of the sellers who are permitted to get the logo.

An authorized retailer or authorized distributor is one who the manufacturer of the product has given them the authority to sell their product.  For sneakers, Famous Footwear or Footlocker for example would be authorized to sell Nikes but the Asian guy with a table at the flea market would not be an authorized distributor.

@1tuna CREDIT is a loan and has nothing to do with a manufacturer allowing you to distribute their product.

Warranties can also be affected if not purchased from an authorized retailed.

In today's Humpty Dumpty world, where any word means whatever anyone says it does?  Sure, why not.   Why can't you identify as an authorized retailer?   😄

However, you are not an "authorized retailer" in the normal language of commerce, not as defined in the Uniform Commercial Code or the commercial code of, say, Pennsylvania (where I live).   Since eBay does not manufacture or distribute any product, it does not have authorized retailers.

I searched for that phrase, and google found a lot of discussions here in the community, and this:

That's obviously quite old information but I couldn't find anything more recent, and there is nothing in the eBay Policy pages about it. So I suspect that this is accurate: it is available to certain large sellers, and the requirements they have to provide are made known only to those who qualify. I'm not sure what "diamond" sellers means, but I suspect it is something like a Shooting Star seller.

I did a search to see how this was displayed in search results. Is this what you are asking about? It appears that all of these Authorized Sellers have high feedback (shooting star).

The three you show are also authorized retailers in the usual meaning of the word, authorized to sell Chauvet, Bach, and QSC products and thus display their logos, no?

On the listing, it says, respectively, "BACH Authorized Seller,"  "BACH Authorized Seller," "QSC Authorized Seller."

Maybe eBay just wants to use its own term, "seller," rather than "retailer."

But I still say that if -inhawaii- identifies as an Authorized Retailer, go for it!  😅

Sheesh!  The first is supposed to be "CHAUVET Authorized Seller."
