Did you mean:

pay pal debit card scam ?

So I get a message in my regular email acct.

It is from paypal@paypal.com... it looks legit, but I don't click anything.

It says I need to renew my mastercard, that it expires Jan 2019.

On my card it says expires in the middle of 2020

Anyone else get this?

I'll call them later this week.

Why would you need to call someone?

Just log in directly to PayPal ... don't use any links.

@skatefool

Yes I login to pp and don't click links.

There are no messages in my pp acct.

In my experience when a card is due to expire, you are sent a new one automatic.

My regular bank card expires in a couple months, I don't have to ask for a new card.

Odd that the email exp. date was off by a year.

I will be calling the card provider, as there is no access to the card from my pp account.

Re: pay pal debit card scam ?

Did it address you with your name or business name in the email?

"Our emails to you will always address you by the first and last name or the business name you registered with on PayPal"

https://www.paypal-community.com/t5/PayPal-Basics/How-to-tell-if-an-email-is-from-PayPal/td-p/197656

They will not send emails with links to click, (unless you requested one like a password change for example)

Maybe send it to spoof@paypal.com

Haven't got any from PayPal, but have had a lot of - your order is confirmed with a link to check it. None from eBay but several from amazon.

Ditto. Just go into your PayPal account and look at the section headed "Bank and cards." You should find your MasterCard listed as one of your payment methods, and I think you're going to find that you never updated the Expiration Date listed there when you received your newer/current card from MasterCard. January 2019 was presumably the Expiration for the card back when you first added it to your PayPal account.

While MasterCard may issue you new(er) cards as the old ones age off, you have to update their Expiration Dates yourself on PayPal and wherever else you have the card stored.

OMG  I am a fool who needs his eyes checked.

When I saw the expire date, my mind stopped right there.

I went back and read it again...

PP is replacing the cards with "chip" cards.

Now when the banks went with chip cards, you just got the replacement in the mail.

Why PP did not make the switch is a head scratcher.

Chip readers have been around for years.

I've had a Paypal chip card for a while now.

Re: pay pal debit card scam ?

They sent me a chip card like 2 years ago. It also doesn't have the card # on the front, all the info is on the back.
