on getting negative feedback for canceling sales

Can we please get the website to keep buyers from leaving negative feedback when sales are canceled? I am fairly good about remember to take down listings when I no longer own them or sell them at a garage sale. But occasionally I will sell a CD or a DVD I no longer own. I politely explain the item is no longer in my inventory and immediately reimburse the buyer and the next day I get slammed with negative feedback. For RETURNING HISW MONEY PROMPTLY! I find this kind of buyer reprehensible and the website should start evoking their buyers privileges when they do this. Your thoughts?

Feedback allows a buyer to "rate" the experience they had with you and to warn potential future customers of what can possibly go wrong buying from you.  Getting a refund is not a happy experience.  You need to be a little more careful and remove active listings when you already sold an item.

@chukker66  Sorry but it is the Seller's responsibility to make sure the items they have for sale on eBay are available.  Yes, sometimes mistakes happen but if you do this regularly then I do not blame the Buyers for thier actions.

1. Cancellations:  only sellers can cancel, if they do it at the request of a Buyer they do NOT receive a strike on their account.  If they cancel on their own they get an OOS strike on their account

2. 100% Refund without shipping:  Seller risks getting negative FB from an unhappy Buyer

This has nothing to do with "the site" keeping Buyers from leaving negative FB ... it has to do with you operating within the guidelines of the site.

I am sure that buyers that get these cancelations find the sellers reprehensible too , you want to somehow punish the buyer when you cancel a sale because you screwed up ?

How about revolking the sellers privlages when they do this ,sounds kind of silly when the shoe is on the other foot ?

Buyers paying for an item, which they never receive,

sounds like a negative experience to me.

As a seller, you need to pay more attention to your lisintgs, and what is available. You are not only racking up defects on your seller's account, but your ticking off buyers, too.

Sorry, I'm not behind you on this one. As a seller, I put  a lot of effort into the availability of my items to let some other guy off easy for not keeping up on his.

I bought an item back first week in April.  Paid for within minutes after ending.  Almost as quick, seller refunded, stating they no longer had the item.  As this seller had a previous neg for doing the exact same thing to another buyer just a week or so earlier, seemed fishy.

It was not like this seller had 100s of listings either.  3!!  A few days later, the item I won and paid for, was relisted again, at 10x the price I won it for!!  And, a 3rd bidder had this same sham pulled on them a few weeks later, on yet another item!

If this is happening more than once, within a month, something is not right!!  The rare flier occurrance may get you the benefit of the doubt.  And yes, so many buyers here are blessed with ESP, and thus know beforehand EXACTLY what you have in stock!!  A little care......

You've left several feedbacks lately apologising to buyers because you couldn't ship the item.

Buyers don't purchase a refund, they purchase an item, and if you can't deliver it then that's your fault not the buyers. Sit back and expect some negs if you can't deliver, or, do your job right.
