How long has this been? It was really bad while I was looking this weekend. Do a search for newly listed and do I get new listings? No. I get a few promoted listings that were weeks, months old at the top. Had to scroll down to get what I wanted.
Pay to play. Everybody else gets the crumbs. As a buyer it just makes it harder to find what you want, while eBay pushes garbage that makes them more money.

Couldn't agree more - but what are we to do?? I hate when looking for similar sold items while researching only to have sold turn into both completed and sold so I have to scroll thru completeds to find what sold and on top of that I have to scroll thru unrelated current sponsored listing to get to the solds/completed.
You know Ebay is a mess when many of we "cheerleaders" are frustrated with what's going on.

Been about a week. I brought it up in the Wednesday weekly chat. My issue was I search by auction/ending soonest in a few categories ( my saved searches) and I am seeing Promoted/sponsored listings at the top of my search that are not even auctions, and they are old to boot! Tried making new searches same parameters...same results.
Too many irregularities lately on so many fronts, It is getting harder to sell and to buy here. Things that were simple have become "extra clicks or steps" to get what we got in the past more easily.
BRB ,my yellow bell is lit again! nothing there...... same old problem same old glitch.
I click it like I think it is going to be some good news and I get "You're all caught up!"

Then Ebay wonders why their sales continue to plummet and they continue to lose market-share to their competitors. Buyers get tired of all these games that Ebay plays while trying to dig deeper and deeper into their existing Sellers pockets. Buyers get tired of seeing all the same items over and over and then go elsewhere to make their purchases. But Ebay is more concerned with another one of their short term money grabs where they convince Sellers that they need to offer Ebay an additional 4 to 12% FVF just so their items get seen by the Buyers. All this does is lead to frustrated Buyers and higher prices for the same items that the Buyer can buy on another site, usually from the same seller.

I see things differently twinpop - I think the additional fees to sellers and the changes we've endured is because Ebay knows it has lost so many buyers and has no idea how to lure them back and so has to prop up their profit margins by taking it from sellers.
They've cut marketing - even your most successful businesses continue to market themselves because the competition is only one step behind - so they're wrong there. Instead of worrying about Amazon they should see where buyers and sellers are going. Social media is free for both at this time, Amazon - you pay a one time fee and list all you want from my understanding, many sites are free to list on or cost less than Ebay and their FVFs are the same or less.
Sellers are buyers and they are going to go where they can get the best deals but you have to make a profit to spend that profit and it's becoming harder to do on Ebay. Instead of focusing on fixing the glitches - some years old and stabilizing the platform - they continue to tweek the system with "new" layouts or changes and then we see something else become problematic - I'm not a techy - but if it's anything like the body - a bad knee can affect the hip due to your gait which then affects the back and sometimes the ankle. You can fix the knee but often times that doesn't fix the back, hip or ankle problems without additional work.

I agree. It is annoying to have to scroll past those who wasted money on the promoted items. I would never in a million years buy the first thing I see and always change the default best match to my own search terms.

Our hands down best abstract is dead last in best match and reasonably priced for caliber of art,i don't know how i can win in this rigged system run by buffoons and clapping seals that are penny wise and dollar dumb. i guess i should astronomically raise the price and give the Charon of Hades his fare.

+1,
Yes, imo the placement of promoted listings is out of control. The idea that no matter what the buyer indicates as his/her choice they get force fed at least two promoted listings before seeing their results is crazy stuff.
Can folks imagine a local restaurant operating that way? Yea, sure we know you ordered the club sandwich on rye, but we're getting a great deal from our supplier of hoagie rolls, so we're going to make you turn down a hoagie twice before you get that club on rye. I doubt folks would continue to eat there -

eBay has really changed into a completely different animal from be relatively fair and straight forward owl like creature to rabid wild boar in a very short period of time just my opinion suppose those that have figured this stuff out beg to differ but this best match is so so wrong.

i could understand paying for promo advertising to draw new buyers from well placed ads on the net and funnel them to eBay but the double listing only cannibalizes and causes wasted traffic rather than creating new traffic
