off site storage?

How many of you use storage units [I assume those with B&M stores or stalls store stuff there]? I've been in an undesirable situation for a long time, not enough shelving and no place to install more [I sell mostly books].  Many boxes of books and media, both listed and unlisted, in many rooms. My husband is patient but really doesn't like an ebay house.  I figure I am probably going to be doing this for another 8-10 years and I would also like a change.

I stopped at a storage unit place and the units most useful are more expensive than I'd hoped.  But there would also be value in getting away from having such an ebay house.

What about those 'rolling' bookcases?

If you're building your own.

They really save space.

Here's a picture, like I mean.

You're a hoarder. The first step is acknowledging it and getting out of denial. So am I! 😛

", there's no luggage racks on a hearse = ) "

i get told this all the time and so does my dad and uncle but my dad always said in response to that is "no sense in having money if you don't spend it. "

Generic reply, not sure who the OP is...

Should you decide to look into backyard sheds, the folks who sell these (Leonard sheds is a big one here in Va) often have repossessed units for a steal. We do all of our eBay out of a 12x20 unit we bought, delivered and set up, for $2000. A little bit of money to insulate, wire, and panel...add a window AC unit and a portable heater, and we have a clean pleasant area with lots of room. Its an investment as well, you can always repurpose or resell them when no longer needed. YMMV.

Excellent suggestion @varebelrose

You can really get a good bargain if you keep your eyes peeled! Years ago, we repurposed one of these units as a backyard metalworking studio. The original owner had invested the money for the upgrades.

Re: off site storage?

I'm trying to admit that. My weakness is clothes in addition to stuff I buy to resell. I have more clothes than I can wear. Since I bought a lot of them gently used it is time for me to donate rather than try to resell. It's not worth my time for the amount of money they would make.

Collections tend to expand to fill the room available. Just make sure you will make good use of a storage facility and not use it to build up an even bigger pile of stuff you can not get rid of. If you haven't sold them by now, maybe it's time to cut your losses.

Re: off site storage?

Here is my take on what will happen.

You get a storage space and move a lot of stuff into it to free up space in your house.

You will continue to pick up more merchandise and refill your house because you are buying more than selling.

You will then move more to the storage locker and start all over again,

Meanwhile, the locker fills up and sits that way as you will be way too busy with what constantly comes into the house.

Eventually, you will need another locker and as the say it never stops until you stop buying merchandise.

I would be very careful using a basement for strage unless it is also temperature controlled.

That's exactly how it goes down...!

I've been going through my clothing. 3 HUGE lawn and leaf plastic garbage bags have already left the house for recycleable fabric bins. One more is already full in the basement, just waiting for me to lug it over to the drop bin. Then I am absolutely positive I can fill another, and possibly two. I had two huge closets stuffed to the max.
