way back in my shipping learning I was under a master shipper who insisted that I make all tape ends on my packages where, the said customer could easily grasp the tape ends to be pulled away from the package thus exposing the contents quickly, neatly, and easy, make "tails" on the tape ends. This, I feel did serve me well in my sales endeavors. and gets repeat customers, as well as thank you notes. happy selling everyone!

My main concern is making sure packages arrive safely and undamaged. Fragile items are double boxed and outside of boxes have no loosed edges or tape. If I accidentally create a "Tail" I cut it off or tape it over. My main concern would be postal machinery somehow snagging on a "Tail" and damaging the package.
I do appreciate your suggestion and would use it on the inside box if I double boxed.

Easy caught in machines and even transport rollers belts shakers etc.
Not a good idea.

Nothing on the outside that can catch. And no tape needed on the inside of my packages. My items are wrapped with bubblewrap, like a deli sandwich...diagonally, and that wrapped item fits snugly in the box. Customer just opens the box and unwraps the bubblewrap. No tape. Zero, nada, no where......inside. 🙂

I'm still trying to figure out what a " Master shipper" is?

Ahh back in the day when they gave lessons in shipping ( multiple supposed experts did such) it was a term.
Folks use to make a buck of trying to teach how to pack and ship to small and large companies.
I have no idea if such is still done. (all supposedly scientific etc.).
Such things as how mush tape can be saved by not going to far over the edge of the box and there for in the long term save money and so on... Some good ideas taught through such.

I did not mean on the out side, and I did not think about how different people would perceive the post, what I really meant was make it easy for the customer to open, and not have to run and get a knife, they could damage whats inside.

Here is a good tutorial on packing.

I do that with post it tabs on every piece of tape.

Inside the box tape, not outside.
