mandatory measurements when selling clothing

hey ebay.   would you please make it mandatory that sellers of clothing list the measurements( in inches ) of the item.  sending questions to the sellers should not be necessary.  one can never assume a size for one manufacture is equal to all.  Not to mention alterations that have occurred with the item.

Re: mandatory measurements when selling clothing

It does not always work. I just sold ladies' top. Buyer wanted to return opening SNAD. The top was too short, boxy according to her. However, the measurements are in the description, she just didn't bother. I had to refund all the money.

Re: mandatory measurements when selling clothing

This is true.  Different manufacture's often have variations in their sizes from one to another.  However, while it is wise for sellers to include measurements in their listings, I'm not sure eBay requiring it.

There is also the matter of how the seller takes the measurements.

Re: mandatory measurements when selling clothing

Although measurements are certainly important for clothing, everything listed, with few exceptions, needs measurements but sadly, often they are just not there.  Missed sales opportunities when the buyer just passes those listings by~or moves on after sending a question.

Re: mandatory measurements when selling clothing

Please name other sites where measurements are given for each single piece of clothing.

I'm not disagreeing with you; measurements are very important to me, also, and I include them in my listings but if you order a dress through Target's website, are you going to see measurements for the dress, in each size offered?

I'm going to make a coolection statement here, meaning it's my observation only with no basis in scientific fact.  It appears to me that the clothing sellers that include measurements take returns; the sellers who do not include measurements and say "see photos" do not take returns.

Disclaimer:  I by no means have looked at every piece of clothing offered on ebay.

OP, I  hit the back button on a clothing item if the seller doesn't offer returns.  Unless it's something I really, really want and the price is really, really good and I know it will really, really fit me because I used to have one just like it.

Re: mandatory measurements when selling clothing

Hey Ebay - can you please make it mandatory that BUYERS read the measurements I provide in my listings. Another return coming back because buyers can't find the measurements due to needing to click a button to see the full description or they look at the picture and think - yep - that will fit!

Ebay - where clothing buyers want a boutique experience at sub Wal-Mart prices.

If perfect fit is that important to you, buying your clothes on Ebay isn't prudent.

I think selling clothes online is a tough business. I don't know how you all do it. My wife buys a ton of clothes online and has to return about 1 or 2 out of every 10 purchases.  I know because she hands me the garment and the return label.

Her returns are mostly when she buys from a new store that she has not used before. Perfect fit is a must.

With Free Returns , Free Shipping, and an extremely liberal one-sided return policy;  the buyer really has no reason to read anything, they have no skin in the game.   Its unfortunate, you had to refund money due to a buyer's failure to read your description.

Re: mandatory measurements when selling clothing

If you are shopping through the ebay mobile app, you won't see measurements unless the seller has put them in the body of the description. Sellers have been presented with the Item Description section to fill out when they create a listing. This includes fields for measurements and other pertinent item information which shows up in a box above the text body of the listing. However, the information that sellers enter in this field doesn't show up in the mobile app.

I used to get buyers asking me for clothing measurements and I wondered why until I figured out what was going on. I now repeat the measurements in the text body of the listing as well. So if you shop with the mobile app, try using your computer. You might find more of the information you're looking for.

Re: mandatory measurements when selling clothing

eBay isn't likely to demand that sellers provide measurements.   It's not just clothing sellers that omit this information either.  It can be for anything.   If dimensions aren't there I will send the seller a message asking for them because size is important and I don't want to waste my time returning items. For example, if I need a case for sunglasses  I want to make sure the dimensions are correct because it needs to be big enough to hold them properly.  However, way too many sellers don't put this information in their listing and I'm assuming they think the buyer should know.  But the manufacturers do have these cases in various sizes so the dimensions are really important.  Especially when you have oversize sunglasses that can't fit in an eyeglass case.  But there is also the problem of buyers who don't read item specifics.  I get a number of messages from buyers who won't take the time to read the listing in it's entirety or don't even bother to figure out if it work for them before purchasing so sellers get unnecessary returns.

I've been buying clothing and shoes online forever.  I check the manufacturer's websites for their size charts to help me choose because there are so many variances.  I have purchased things that didn't fit despite my attempts to be careful but I don't remember ever returning a clothing item for fit issues.  As for shoes I tend to stick the brands and styles I know will fit.

Many other sites include size charts with measurements such as this.

Measurements may be even more crucial on eBay clothing.  If used, it may have shrunk or been altered.  Whether new or used, the tag may be inaccurate.  This happens.

I don't think asking for measurements makes it a boutique experience.

Yes, but not everyone offers Free Returns, Free Shipping, or has an extremely liberal one sided return policy.  Possibly so many don't have measurements, some buyers don't think they will be there, and so they miss them.

By the way just so you know this is a community forum board and eBay customer service doesn't  read or respond to comments posted here.
