I have noticed alot of people dont really fill out the discription, they do fill out most of the other information in the listing info description then they put a genaric message like I COMBINE SHIPPING or the will put a post that is copy and pasted of all there ways they ship and return information on every item in there store. So my question is, is it really nessasary for me to fill out all the ebay item information and then go into description and fill out more information. it seems to me ebay is allowing us to not really have to do this and I would be able to list items alot faster. I also see lots of people when listing clothes not adding all the item specifics like Country/region of manufacture and color, pattern, season, material ect... im tring to increase my listing faster to get more items listed on a daily basis anyone have any thoughts on this?

No, it's not necessary to write a description. It's also not necessary to post more than one photo, or to provide item specifics (except in some cases), or do anything else that might make someone more likely to buy your item instead of one of the thousands of others they can choose from.
Does that answer your question?

It should be very easy to find out whether eBay requires a description - try to list something without one and see what happens. It has never dawned on me to try.
My thoughts?
I think there is a significant difference between what a seller should do and what eBay will permit a seller to do.

It's where you can describe the item and reduce your chances of receiving a SNAD.

significanltly not as described which when buyer selects that as reason for return opens a buyer protection case .If you do not resolve a case without ebay getting invloved you get a case strike.

Hi, you should absolutely be as detailed as possible. the more info the better even though it is time consuming. I can't stand when I click on a sellers item and there is a lazy one liner description leaving out important information like size, damage, date of manufacture ect. and it is even worse when there are not photos covering every possible angle of the item. Then I have to waste my time trying to message and ask questions. I usually just hit the back button! you take very nice photos at least the main ones so hold yourself to high standards and do not get lazy. it will cost you sales, bad feedback and returns. check out some of my descriptions, EBAY Customer service once told me to shorten them buyers only want to read one or two lines? YEAH RIGHT, my motto is the more the better. That has been working just fine for me for 3 plus years and my feedback speaks for itself. Just something to think about.

ebay may have dropped it from policy text but that is what SNAD stands for

Agreed, Back Button time immediately. If they can't take the time to be thorough in the first place they likely won't take the time to answer any inquiries.
Accurate descriptions take a little time. Selling takes time.
Good luck~
