Guy bought a "lot" from me 10/24. No payment. It has until 10/31 because my window for payment is 7 days (I have this to be helpful to people who want to combine multiple orders). Guy messaged me 10/28 to inform me that he is trying to buy 3 more lots ending that day. I told him he'll need to pay for Lot 1 on time or Ebay will close the auction and leave him a strike.
Says he, no he won't get a strike if he pays and someone on ebay told him to wait to pay for a month and keep buying.
I repeated that based on my settings he has a week. He won the 3 more lots. I immediately packed them and sent the combined invoice. No immediate payment.
On 10/30 he wrote to say that he'll pay on the 31st and wants 2 more lots ending 10/31 so all of it can be combined.
Says I, he really does need to at least pay for lot 1 because it's going to go off. Moreover, I have already used my largest box so will not be adding any more lots. Those will have to go into another group.
I am asking myself that he if doesn't pay 10/31 should I put him on my blocked bidder list and cancel any bids he might have.
He now is informed about the strikes so I hope he'll be motivated to pay for the 4 rather not ever pay and get 4 strikes!
I have more of these items and he says he'll keep bidding on them so I hope this will resolve by 10/31 to avoid some headaches.
If not do you think my idea of the blocked bidder list and cancelling bids is the way to go?

It's your buyer and they are your transactions. You can do whatever your business model and experience dictate.
You can put the member's id on your exclusion list so the transactions will not be cancelled, if you decide to allow him to continue to buy in order to take advantage of combined shipping.
Preferences for items awaiting payment
Make sure you flip the "Automatically cancel unpaid items" toggle to see the options.
Having said that, I do find it interesting he's already talked to customer service about how long he has to pay for a transaction, and they told him a month? I find that curious, frankly. I'd be really leery of that.
I wouldn't be surprised if CS told him that, I'm just suspicious of how the conversation even came up.

No, apparently it was some other seller who told him that. Or something. He now agrees that a month is too long. I am a little leery of continuing to do business with this guy.

I don't know . . . I mean, if you think some rando seller actually told him that, then maybe . . .
I think you need to set whatever time limit you can live with, and then shut the guy off. You don't want him to be into you for all kinds of money and not pay. It would tie up your items for several days, if nothing else.
Gees. It's been a lot of years since I was that strapped for money, but more and more people are these days. I didn't check to see the kind of items you sell, but are they necessities--meaning clothing or whatnot? Or are they luxuries--mean just fun stuff a person could do without?
Really, I got nothin'.
P.S. I miss seeing your little owl icon!

The "one month" thing is how long you have to report an unpaid item and have eBay return your fees. Longer than 30 days and eBay keeps your seller fees.
I have no problem waiting for buyers to pay, as long as they provide a reason. I've had buyers wait for more than a week to pay, and they've let me know that it is because they are bidding on other items. You can check to see who is winning your items; if it's the same buyer, and you feel that you can safely combine their items for shipping, there's not really any reason not to wait.
If a buyer isn't going to pay, they aren't going to pay. It doesn't matter if you wait a week or require immediate payment, if they aren't going to pay either way. The only advantage for faster payment is that you get the money sooner. As a relatively low-volume seller, I always try to go above and beyond for my buyers. I mean, "the customer is always right", right? I don't want to risk driving a customer away, I don't sell that much to begin with.
However, the choice is yours. Good luck!

Personally, I'd probably put them on my exclusion list so no cases are opened, but I would explain that you can't ship more "x" together due to shipping constraints. Explain you will invoice when he hits the max for your shipping box, and then if he doesn't pay, hammer down. I hate to turn away a good buyer, but they have to pay to really qualify as good.

I wonder what happened to the icon?
They are all DVDs so not necessities but he is agog to buy a lot of them and I have tons more to list. I'm trying to get him to pay by tonight. When we can start fresh with any sales from tomorrow.

I am also highly motivated to work with customers, hence the 7 days to pay to help people buy multiples. With this transaction it's been too many messages and some confusion on my part at a time of year when I'm slammed and lack some bandwidth. I hope he'll just pay for the 4 he won before the 1 goes off and I have to maybe relist it to the store or something. sigh.

Up to you, but I like Buyers who "pay".
Orherwise, it is time consuming and like window shopping, when I could be selling to someone else.
Sales are slow and harder to come by right now for many.
I would not drag this out too far.

As sellers can set the unpaid out as far as 30 days that is likely where the buyer/other seller got that "30 days" from

That must be it, thanks.

The entititlement worries me. He doesn't 'have to pay for 30 days' yet he wants combined shipping for everything. I'd be more inclined to cut him off. His game doesn't seem to care about you or paying.

There seems to be a slight (LOL!) miscommunication between the Community software and the marketplace software. It's been like this for over a month! Head on over to the "Share Community Platform Feedback" board if you'd like to read about it. There are maybe close to ten threads on the topic of not being able to see avatars, feedback links, etc. I won't link them here for you, in case you're not interested, but they're easy to spot on that board.

I told him he really needs to pay tonight to avoid maybe having one order canceled by ebay and getting a strike. Nothing. I am really feeling like if he ends up paying, putting him on The List and canceling his future bids. But I don't want to be petty. I just want things to run smoothly because i have my hands full this time of year.
