hi everyone, you all have been so helpful all the time. I need advice yet again. I sold this Chatty Cathy clothing and shoe lot, item number :322785023763
I included a lot of extras for the buyer. iget this message from her today:
"Hello.I received my package today. Overall I'm pleased with what I received.
However, the pajamas are untagged. The original Chatty Cathy ones should have a tag in the top. They should also have small pink roses. The ones you sent have polka dots.
Is there any chance you can give me a partial refund? I was considering this set as genuine when I placed my bids."
Now, my listing had very clear photos...I feel like she saw they were polka dots, yet she bid anyway..however I can understand he rpredicament if she saw my listing at the last second and didn't have time to verify these as genuine pj's. Should I give a partial refund or should I have her return it and I pay for her return shipping since it is my error? what would you guys do?

I looked at your listing. The PJ set looks like it has Polka Dots, not Roses. I blew the photo up as big as I could. The buyer bought the item with Polka Dots--Now is saying, want a partial because they are suppose to be roses. Sounds like she needs glasses or a big computer monitor.

If she did not take time to look closely at the listing to verify what she thought she seen, then I would say she is not performing well in terms of her collecting skills. Nope. no roses there, and no tag that I can see on the inside of the PJ. She seems to have got what she ordered.

Buyer relied on seller's description of Chatty Cathy [brand] clothing.
What if they bought it for a collector friend and had no idea that they were supposed to be roses until the collector friend told them.
Again, buyer relied on seller's (inaccurate) description.

@lintbrush* wrote:I think your listing was incorrect - you described it as Chatty Cathy clothing. All of the Chatty Cathy pajamas are roses not polka-dots. Falling back on the 'they should've seen the polka-dots in the pictures' isn't going to fly. Buyer relied on your description - which is what counts.
Now what you want to do about it is entirely up to you. If I were in your shoes, I'd be apologizing profusely for my error and either offer a full refund on return on the whole lot or a reasonable refund for the value of the pajamas. I'm usually generous if the error is mine - to make up for my mistake.
If you listed those pajamas as "home-made for Chatty Cathy" what do you think they'd sell for?
Not the point. Unless the pajamas were the only item in the listing and they were sold as vintage Chatty Cathy, then the seller is wrong. Except there were lots of other items in the lot which were definitely made by Mattel for the doll. And some of the shoes are clone but some are pretty hard to find originals.
As a side note, not every outfit was tagged. That said, I don't think they are Mattel but they are vintage made for a doll that size. With all of the non-Mattel pieces in the lot, if I wasn't 100% sure, I would ask. Before buying.
No partial. Return everything for refund. I bet you never hear from her again.

That's correct, but funny enough when you OVER describe sometimes you give them more amunition to hit you with the "you said it was ---. when I got it it was----. LOL. Just cannot please 'em sometimes.

A picture, especially a good one, is worth a million words.

Return for refund. That is ALWAYS my answer unless I made a mistake, eBay made a mistake (think item details here) or the item is costly to ship or hard to sell. I no longer sell items that are expensive to ship, so I rarely get a request for that anymore. I do offer partials (it's on a case by case basis) but many sellers say NEVER! This sounds like a FCM item, return for refund.

@chrysylys wrote:Also, you have virtually no description at all. No mention of the pattern or tags, or not.
Typically a potential buyer should ask questions first, but you should have much more detail in a listingh for $70+ so buyers don't have to ask questions.
So the buyer assumed tags. That is not SNAD. I disagree about giving too much written information, it just makes a SNAD case. When buyers assume, sellers typically win cases.

Exactly.

Usually, I'm not a fan of parial refunds, and simply say 'return for refund'. But I also factor in how the situation could play out. In this case, it sounds like you risk ending up with a SNAD if you don't do a partial, and if the buyer isn't wrong (the pjs are NOT authentic & you stated everything in the lot was), then a partial refund might save you a case and money overall.
If they file SNAD you'd be out the shipping cost (her to ship them back to you), and would have to try & resell the lot, possibly for less $$ as you should disclose they are not authentic Chatty Cathy pjs.
I would look & see how much the authentic pjs have sold/can be purchased for, and offer her a partial refund amount based on that, minus a few dollars, for the fact that she did receive some pjs that fit the doll.
