It seems some computer sellers are able to dominate EBay search where they are constantly on top of the search engine? For example if you serarch for "Dell poweredge R720" they are mostly on top unless you have a new listing which will be buried in a few hours by their listings.

That item has less than a 1% sell thru rate not even worth messing with a good dump item just to recover something from... 24,938 / 259

What is happening is there listings engage buyers and eBay rewards listings that engage buyers. Buyer engagement are things like
New listing
This is how the best match search works.
How to engage buyers?
Think about what they see in the search result.
These are the things you need to think about and see where you can engage a buyer to open your listing from the search result and then hopefully buy from the listing.

If this item has a 1% sell thru rate how does:
Why would any listing get the "royal treatment"

I've seen it too.
there is a seller with 59 feedback ,no top rated plus, yet his listings are ahead of my newly listed items which have catalog specifics filled out, 30 days return and free shipping, and 6,600 feedback 100% rating .
one seller when you type in a certain item in search has over 300 items ahead of all but a few sellers here and there. You literally have wade through page after page, ebay is putting sellers who have one day handling waaaay ahead of sellers who don't. There is no way a seller can do one day handling every day 365 a year.
To put hundreds of listings from the same seller ahead of everyone else who pays the same fees, but yet can't be seen is wrong. One day handling is ludicrous, someone buys something 11 at night, I work til 3am, post lady comes by at 9am ,I've missed the cutoff because, believe it or not ebay, sellers do need to sleep. so package next day when i wake up, i've missed the post lady so item goes out following am, not to mention that filling out the item specifics raises your ad closer to the top so with 10,000 listings if i want them to be seen i have to individually edit each one, Crazy just Crazy ! not to mention the extra time it takes when listing to do so, i don't get paid anymore for an ad that took 1 minute longer to list because of item specifics, then one that didn't,
times that 1 minute by 10 hours and you are listing fewer ads which means less money. ebay just sucks we all pay the same fees, we should all be seen, level playing field.

That was ten years ago. Where have you been?
The posting Id and the word "Luck" concern me. Are you in the states?
I'm sure you wouldn't want to pass on obsolete information.

years ago,I read an article that EBay spotted a brick and mortar store in Manhattan which sells on EBAY,they are computer savvy and they have the inventory in store,if not, they can get it from their distributor or maker.
It is not 47th st store.
Ebay contacted them and clued them how to sell and display their items, from then on,give them good visibility, since then they closed up their store in MANHATTAN and moved to a cheaper office and sell strictly on Ebay.
That was years ago and most Ebay sellers selling electronics are individuals either selling on their own or using dropshippers, not too many pros,so a good professioanl dealer is badly needed .
Now I see BBY is also selling on Ebay, and some large precious metal dealers like APMEX also sell on Ebay.

Why would any listing get the "royal treatment"
Because new listings deserve the right to see if buyers will engage. If new listings did not get some boost at the beginning then the high selling GTC listing will always dominate the search results. This is a measure used for best match. Listing that engage buyers will continue to rise in search as new listings that do not will fall. The busier the category the more frequently this cycle is happening.
If you sell similar after each listing cycle than you will have a chance at best searchj placement albeit depending on the category and how many new listings go live at the same time it might be short lived and it might also get buyer engagement.
