holds

I am a very hard headed ebay seller. I have always had holds placed on my funds from sales I've made, either placed by pay pal or ebay, and I just posted a whiney complaint about it. Then I read all the similar posts about funds being held, and they always state the policies when responding. That there are holds to protect the buyers, and that once the item is delivered , THEN the hold comes off...after 3 days, supposedly... Anyway, it just made me realize that there is a reason for this policy. Buyers don't want to be cheated out of their money either. neither does e-bay, or pay pal, or any of us.

But in my estimation, like my Dad always told me: The CUSTOMER is ALWAYS right. (even when they're wrong...) My Dad was much loved in his chosen field of business, and his customers left happy. Which made them return, again and again, because he catered to them, and made them feel special. So, relating this to my being a "merchant" here on Ebay, I need to accept this hold policy, because it is the price I pay to earn my customers trust, which is based on how much they trust EBAY.

So, in memory of my Dad, who was affectionately known as "Breakers' Tony", I will shut up, and suck it up and realize that I am a business owner, just like he was. And I want my customers to come back time after time to this place. So, Ebay, I'm sorry for complaining so much about my measely little couple of bucks you are holding. I am going to hold my head up, grin and bear it and keep selling here on your site.

Oh, and Thank You., from one merchant to another.

Seek to find Peace and pursue it

Re: holds

You've taken a positive view to this issue and it will lend well to success.  Not sure if you are a new seller, but we have been selling for a couple of years and no longer experience holds,  It was a bit frustrating at the start though and we can understand where you are at.    Don't worry about venting, it sometimes needs to happen 🙂

Re: holds

Your Dad sounds like a legendary saleman and a great success!  I think you have the seeds of his greatness within you.  They say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, you know.

Why do I say this?  Because it is truly rare to have someone look at the big picture, as you have, let alone apologize for griping or complaining.  Some make it their sole function.  Some never care about anyone other than themselves, and so they can't see anything beyond themselves.  Not their impact on their buyers, or even their impact upon themselves.  I'm glad you have this attitude so you aren't making yourself miserable!  And you aren't spraying it on everyone else!

I love this post and your attitude.  I think your Dad is smiling and very, very proud of you right now!

Re: holds

Judging by my searches I am coming across more hacked accounts than ever.  In fact some are becoming so lazy in their scams they are not even trying to hide it.  One copied and pasted another's photo with his watermark right on it.  They are copy and pasting titles verbatim so when you do a search you see both, the legitimate one and the scam one.

Others are a little more discreet and only steal sold items hoping no one will notice.  But can you imagine if there was no hold on new and 6month or more old accounts.  Scammers could list items they did not have, take your money, and disappear.

Holds is one of the smartest things ebay has ever done.

Oh and I have changed my tactic with obviously stolen listings.  There were 3 last week and instead of reporting them to ebay who will do nothing, I copied and pasted and then used contact seller to report right to them.  They were very greatful and were able to get the offending listings down wthin the hour.
