good til cancelled

Well, I went to relist a few items that expired without selling. Planned to list for 30 days fixed price. THen the only GTC  change finally reared its forecasted ugly head. Yup,,it is here now. No longer can you do a 30 day fixed price listing without it auto relisting without change. I opted for some 10 day auctions with my desired asking price as the starting price with the listings I had available....not much of an auction!

I did open an ETSY store a few weeks back when I read the update bulletin. I will be listing my collectables there and working down my inventory on Ebay....Unless they change this "feature". Which seems unlikely at this point.

I was thinking I would play the cancel at day 29 game...but realized I would enevidably miss one of those days and be really angry when I got charged for the listings that all got rolled over. So I will work down my inventory down in 10 day auction style and call it good.

Too bad, I have been a seller since the 1990's, sold over $29,000.00 in that time, and have positive feedback score of 1,778.......slimdogslim! is sad

I am also, so far, refraining from doing any fixed price relisting. Not sure how strict I will end up being about this. I feel like just in the last year things have gotten steadily worse around here. Their breathless "promoted listings available to more users!" announcement also sounds like we are all supposed to claw our way over each other, fight to the death, see who can bribe the masters the most to get any attention from buyers.

ETSY auto relist is an option, I think it is 20 cents for the four months, Slim

Re: good til cancelled

My items are seasonal collectable items!  I get 250 fixed price listings each month through my store.  Looks like I'll have to cancel each listing on day 29 even If I have buyers watching the item. More work for sellers and not good for buyers.

Re: good til cancelled

Please, please, PLEASE go back to offering 30 day Fixed Price Listings!  GTC is not a one size fits all solution! It may help some sellers who don't list very many items, but I have a starter store and need to let some items "sit out" that are not selling so I can list some new inventory.  The extra time needed to manage this change is prohibitive.  If you want to help sellers, offer different listing time frames to fit different sellers!

Slimdogslim!,

I have sold on eBay since 2003, I closed my store yesterday.  I am moving to Etsy and also found Bonanza which was an easy move.  eBay made it clear with this new policy that they wanted the small store sellers off their platform.  I will miss this community but it always nice to make new friends.

Re: good til cancelled

What REALLY bothers me about this is their snide little notification that they're "helping you sell your items" by crippling their interface and removing options. Were they trying to insult everyone's intelligence and add insult to injury, or are they really that divorced from the needs of their user base?

It's just miserable. Etsy looks more appealing every day.

Re: good til cancelled

I am also disgusted with this gtc move. I intend to relist things until summer and then have a huge garage sale. This action on eBay's part is taking away our freedom to list our items the way that we want to. Look at it this way. We are leasing space, which we pay for with fees, from eBay and should be able to sell our items the way that we want to not the way that eBay wants us to. Is this the start of a take over of our items by eBay???? Think about it folks. I will reduce my inventory and then close my store and eventually leave eBay for another venue. So sorry.

Re: good til cancelled

I did call eBay and the lady that I spoke with told me that she had received 56 complaints about GTC just in one day. I don't know how many telephone people eBay has but there must have been a lot of complaints. She also told me that she would forward my complaint to the higher ups. Yeah right. I will keep calling though.

Re: good til cancelled

I completely agree.  I've been selling for 19 years.  When I decided to get a storefront, getting the fixed price listings was one of the selling points, but not with the option of different time durations.  I find it ironic, that my overview page under how many fixed price listings I have left, states: "Pay no insertion fees on 1000 fixed price listings, including Good ‘Til Cancelled."  I'm not sure what to do.  Very frustrated.

Re: good til cancelled

I have etsy stores and in my experience unless something has changed...Etsy gives you 4 months for $.20 each

( $. 05 a month)   and they do not auto renew...you choose to auto renew yourself.  I am ending ebay and going to all etsy.

Re: good til cancelled

yes, what a joke!  "We are helping you sell your items".  NO ebay you are trying to take more of our money or get rid of those of us who don't sell real profitable items that may take awhile.  What they are really saying " We hope by making you use GTC that you will get overwhelmed in trying to manage your listings and a whole bunch will get listed at your loss and our gain!   sickening.

If you have listings on Etsy with a multiple quantity, every time something sells on that listing, Etsy charges a 20 cent renewal fee for the listing.

If you have a listing on Etsy that is variation listing with multiple quantities and a buyer comes through and purchases 4 different line items from that listing, if there is still quantities that haven't sold, they charge you 20 cent EACH for the 4 items that sold as a listing fee on the item.  So that is 80 cents on top of FVFs.

So while on some other sites, on the surface they may look less expensive, you need to look at everything they charge and make sure you understand how they charge these fees to make an informed decision as to what is best for you.  The grass is not always greener on the other side.  Just make sure you have done your research.

I took your suggestion. I don't know that it will do any good, but I am trying.
