format for selling individual cards in a set

I have not been active on Ebay very much over the years, and I see things have changed.  One feature I have noticed is that some sellers have individual cards listed as a buy it now, and they have a drop down menu so buyers can pick the card they want and the seller has the picture of the card and the individual price available. Can anyone tell me how that is done?

This page should answer most of your questions @pappy-alaska - but come back if you need help. Not every category supports variations.

I was going to link to a handy tutorial that @shipscript hosts, but all the screenshots are from the old lister, not the unified lister. Ship - if you want/need help updating that send me a PM and I'll get you some screenshots.

Thanks, eBay's new Unified Lister changes so frequently that it's hard to stay ahead of it.  I do have a few newer photos, but I'll remember you made the kind offer, so watch out....😄

Variations are not available in all categories, although the feature is available for Trading Cards Singles. You may need to turn on the Variation section of the listing form to see it, but it can only be set in a category that supports variations. Once it is turned on, it will always be visible in a category that supports variations.

I do have a tutorial for Variations. There is a screenshot showing where, on the business lister, the variation section can be found. Replace that with the above image. Once the Variation section is opened, most of the screens will look very similar to the tutorial.

https://shipscript.com/ebayhelp/lister_hub/creating_ebay_variations.htm

eBay's help page mentions 5 variation groups (drop lists) with 50 items each, but with Trading Cards Singles, you can have 1 drop list with up to 250 items in it, or two lists with 125 each, etc.

Another caveat is that eBay reserves some labels for Item Specifics. So do not use any Item Specific label as the name of a variation. Using a name today, and then finding that eBay reserved that name tomorrow, has been a big headache on the forums for over a year.  So think carefully about naming your drop lists. I would recommend "Card#".   eBay is now moving toward full words and spaces for their Item Specific labels, so concatenated words and punctuation symbols should be safe to use as a variation label.

And do post back if you get stuck or have questions.

No prob. Gotta say - variations are (in my opinion) one of the 3 biggest fails of the unified lister. Variations should be up at the top where they used to be. By shoving down below the IS:

- You get stuck with a massive gray video box taking up more than half the page.

- You have to scroll halfway down the page to see photos so it's easy to forget which listing you're editing when you open it.

- When you open variations, you cannot drag/drop photos. It doesn't work. Works fine for photos up top on non-variations, but does not work within the variation edit page.

- It's so easy to fill out something like "color" in IS then have to go back and delete it because you plan to use it as a variation attribute. Variation attributes should be created before any IS are filled out and should be placed above IS.

Do you have to be a business seller?  It looks like there is better listing capabilities but you have to pay a monthly charge?

@pappy-alaska

You don't have to be a business seller to use the new Unified Listing tool, and there is no monthly fee for using that tool or for using Seller Hub.  You may be thinking about a store subscription, which does have a monthly fee. There is no requirement to have a store.

It doesn’t seem like you can do this on your phone.

eBay's Mobile App may not yet support variations. However, if a phone is all you have, you should be able to access the business lister from a browser on your phone.  I was able to do so with an iPhone browser.
