final value fees

this is the first time in awhile that I have sold anything on ebay in awhile. Not sure I like their new system

I just sold several items and they added a listing fee of course. but what really concerns me is they based the final value fee on the cost of the item, the cost of the shipping fees, and the tac they added and collected.

so It cost me money to ship items

and they cost me money adding fees to tax they collected

IIs it legal for them to charge me a fee on tax they collect???

Yes, all the sites do it. Think of it as a processing fee for the total money

Ebay has never charged their FVFs on the "cost" of your items you are selling.  They have no idea what your cost was in order to do that.  It is ALWAYS driven by the amount the buyer pays.

OK, so many posters come to the threads throwing out allegations against Ebay doing stuff illegally.  None of them have proof nor can they even cite what law they are accusing Ebay of breaking.  They would all be better off to be honest about this.  It boils down to simply they don't like it.  That fact does not make anything illegal.

The fees in MP have NOT increased overall fees. The following numbers represent those that do not have a store and the fee rate for most common categories [not all].

Fees BEFORE going into MP
10.20% FVF + 2.9% PP fees = 13.10% plus 30 cent per transaction fee.

In MP the fees are:
10.20% FVF + 2.35% money processing fee paid to MP = 12.55% plus a 30 cent per transaction fee.

Starting August 2nd, PayPal is raising their fees, so they will be as follows:
10.20 Ebay FVF + 3.49 PP Fee = 13.69% plus .49 cent Per Transaction fee

PP is apparently offering different fees to different sellers, likely depending on size. From what I've seen it is between 2.59% and 3.49%.

OP says "cost of the item" -  meaning cost to the buyer, not the seller's acquisition cost.

OP is merely questioning if FVF on collected tax is legal or not.  It rubs folks the wrong way - just like FVF on actual shipping.

Unfortunately, rubbing people the wrong way is not against the law.

Most sellers are aware of the fee structure and what it is collected on and have taken proper steps to adjust their prices accordingly.

Before Managed Payments eBay and PayPal did the same thing guess you didn't know that.  The FVF on the shipping and handle only started in 2011.

they added a listing fee of course

Why "of course"? I get 250 free monthly listings on all six of my selling accounts. Did you use up all those 250 free monthly listings before you listed these? Or did you add a listing upgrade that resulted in a fee?

Is it legal for them to charge me a fee on tax they collect?

Yes, it is.
