The overall fees are essentially the same.  With Paypal you were paying generally 10% to Ebay and 2.9% plus 30 cents to Paypal, for a total of 12.9% plus 30 cents.

With managed payments you are paying 12.55% plus 30 cents with no Paypal fee.

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

Yes, they have. But now you no longer have to pay PayPal fees, so it's pretty close to a wash.

Here are some tables that show the difference in total fees between eBay/PayPal and eBay/Managed Payments at various price points. There is one table for no sales tax, one table for 6% sales tax, and one table for 9% sales tax:

fee-1255-0.jpg

fee-1255-6.jpg

fee-1255-9.jpg

If you sell a $100 item to a buyer with a 0% sales tax, your fees went down by 55 cents.

If you sell a $100 item to a buyer with a 6% sales tax, your fees went up by 3 cents.

If you sell a $100 item to a buyer with a 9% sales tax, your fees went up by 32 cents.

Whether you think those fee changes represent eBay fees that have gone up "a lot" depends upon how you define "fees" and how you define "a lot".

IMHO looking at eBay fees in isolation is a false comparison, because IMHO you need to look at the total fees that you are paying. Because the eBay fee now includes the payment processing fee that you used to pay to PayPal.

Mhmmm...

I definitely think eaby may have used the SPIN of fees going down in an effort to make the concept easier to swallow, I do not believe fees have changed much one way or another but the fact that we do pay slightly more once sales tax is taken into account did not escape me... However, the sales tax angle may have bit us even with Paypal in some sort of order, hard to say, they're gone now.

But cheaper?
No, not really.

Pretty close to the same as before, give or take a nickel or a dime here and then.

It's just you.  The overall takeout is about the same.

ebay can spin things how they like it............numbers are always good for that......it seems cheaper

it appears to be,it might be........really has to do with the taxes........there are only so many ways to look at it

I think I can sum it up.its pretty much the same.so much the same its hardly worth the effort to figure it out

You're just seeing all the fees at once, not separate eBay and PayPal fees.

The place where they stuck it to everyone is they now collect the fees up front instead of letting you pay them once a month on a card.

If you break it down it should be pretty close to what you paid before. You're paying a FVF on shipping. Same as before. And any applicable taxes (that's new). But the ebay FVF percentage is ever so slightly lower if I understand correctly. And if course, no PayPal fees anymore.

Fees are about the same however, switching to managed payments will slow your sales significantly.

I MISS the PAYPAL OPTION. I do NOT like my bank acct information being used directly and paypal gave extra protections as a third party.  I am seemingly being charged more on international mailing also. IJS, yes many of us are complaining and talking future listings as well.

I still would like my paypal option to protect my bank acct information, I don't mind the added taxes. Depending on the item types you list, it can really seems the increase sales percentages can be noticed on us smaller sellers.
