erroneous eBay rules

eBay is effecting rules along the way disrupting sales. We had to cancel a few orders and because of that we were labeled BELOW STANDARD. Fine, we were told that we had to get our sales up, follow 3 rules and we would be back on track. I have done what "they" said, and still I am rated BELOW STANDARD.  Now I see a 5% charge on my invoices for being BELOW STANDARD. Made a call, "nothing we can do you will be rated every month until it clears". We have been selling for over 3 years, made eBay over $50,000 and today I hear that I am not able to sell globally because of my BELOW STANDARD rating AND that I have to sell 250 items to have that removed! This is ridiculous!!!

eBay can change the rules, charge fees, change your rating, limit your sales, WITHOUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE. Beware sellers because eBay is becoming a scam operation.

What are the erroneous rules, or where are the erroneous rules?

Wow.  That's between $150,00 and $200,000 a year in sales.  You've been doing well, and I imagine that Below Standard is really cutting into those sales.  Sorry to hear that.

Sorry this happened to you.

That's exactly why I would not want to sell here.  eBay is profiting off of Sellers perceived failures/deficiencies and not working to resolve issues with Good Sellers.

I agree Ebay does impose that ridiculous rule, however it's their platform and you agree to the rules when you sign up to sell your items here. But yes I feel businesses should be able to cancel a sale at any time and for any reason, the only person it really hurts is that business because that customer likely wouldn't return. But to Ebay it hurts them also because they lose that FVF. Why I prefer Etsy, I can cancel anytime for any reason, including seller declines sale, and the only repercussion is maybe a bad review.

Perhaps you have the cart before the horse?

The OP said they had to "Cancel Sales".

That is one of the two deadliest (sins?) here.

And eBay has adequately explained seller performance expectations , in seller update after update....

What does "cancel a few orders" mean?  How many was it?

Follow what 3 rules?

Ebay eval's sellers once a month.  On the 20th of each month for the period ending the previous month.  So if your numbers by the end of June are back in shape, then the eval tomorrow would bring you out of the Below Standard status.  If not, you've got the rest of this month to try and work yourself out before the next eval.

I assume you mean you have sold $50,000 worth of stuff on Ebay since you started.  You didn't make that much for Ebay, they just get the fees on those sales.

These rules aren't hidden.  You should be reviewing your dashboard on a regular basis so that you can spot upcoming problems and possibly head them off before you get a big issue like this happening.

To be moved to Below Standard, there were specific issues.  So how many cancellations did you do and for what reason?  This may help us to help you with that information.

"..eBay can change the rules, charge fees, change your rating, limit your sales, WITHOUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE. Beware sellers because eBay is becoming a scam operation."

You are right. They can change the rules, charge fees, change your ratings et al. Because they can do this, it is imperative to keep up with the seller updates, read the User Agreement and learn the policies that each seller agrees to when the first listing goes up. Sellers need to know all this to be successful on the platform. They can't possibly make sound business decisions without knowing the risks.

Online selling has risks. It is up to each of us to have a plan to manage it.

In this case (and others I've seen) I would say the cart is disconnected from the horse.

I see the Seller as the Horse (metaphorically speaking of course) and eBay as the Cart.  Without the Horse, the Cart just sits there.  Smiley Indifferent
