The economy is actually pretty good right now. So why are we all having problems selling on eBay?

economy is fine... ebay is fine..but yes certainly has changed over the years...BUT you have a limited inventory... you only have a few items listed and frankly it would be for that certain buyer who is looking for a particular item...and then depends on your price...can what you sell be found cheaper?
so look inward and see what you can determine overall.....

1. The economy is growing, actually some say it is growing too fast.
2. eBay is growing ... the average seller saw a 12% sales growth last quarter.
This means.
3. It is your products, your prices, your competition, your market, or the way you are listing.

We all are not having problems selling on eBay. The average seller saw a 12% sales increase in the last quarter (year over year).
Sellers of used clothing, knick knacks, and antiques are having problems due to very high inventory levels (lots of sellers, few buyers), and other sites that have come online in the last year siphoning off sales from eBay in these categories.

Some parts of the country are doing well, other parts not so much.
Plus it is the start of the yard sale season, why buy on ebay, when you can find it local.

I thought that 12% increase was ebay growth...
I doubt that the average seller saw that kind of growth.

The economy is growing, but that growth is not spread out evenly and is biased towards the top income earners. Those folks do not tend to shop on Ebay. For example,. if you can "code" and you win the HR roulette game and get hired by a tech company you can make six figures out of college, become a hipster, and then you won't be caught dead shopping on Ebay.
But as a small time seller just trying to make lunch money, my sales have been OK and really improved since I bit the bullet and made all my listings "mobile friendly".

Nascar is having issues of it's own. Fan base is down. It is also older and they are having trouble attracting fans, especially younger fans.

Plus ebay has been making "improvements" That make it super user UNfriendly.
How much time will a buyer spend looking, when the search is messed up ? Not much.

Our sales have been down also but have been slowly picking back up. Best regards

The GMV (Gross Merchandise Value) increased from 20.0 Billion to 22.5 Billion in the first quarter (2017 to 2018). GMV is the total of all gross sales, equivalent to that 1099-K a seller gets from PayPal. Those numbers represent a 12.5% increase. The active user base increased 4%.
Let me make an adjustment. My raw "12%" increase was based on the GMV growth without accounting for the growth in users. So, gross sales increased 12.5% and active users increased 4%, so that would then translate to the average seller gaining 8.2%.
eBay's portion of that 22.5 Billion in sales was 2.1 Billion, and they ended up with 407 million in net profit.
