let me start by saying. Please don't educate me on the history of Ebay. I have been here since 1998.
so I don't need feedback on everything I am doing wrong etc.. that's not what this is about.
and I am not trying to be rude or disrespectful. I see it alot. someone just sharing a post and they are attacked.
please don't do that. I just want feedback on this matter.
I have listed a few auctions. All of the are BIT or best offer.
I have had 3 of those auctions end now with a buy it now from a very sketchy ebay buyer.
They have followed up with emails using broken english. The addresses do not check out on google maps
and the paypal funds are always on hold.
other deals i have done this is not the case. I pack and ship the same day my things sell. I am on top of it.
not only that, I follow up on delivery day with email ensuring transaction was to satisfaction.
nobody does feedback anymore. They don't have time. oh well.
however . It just shocks me that not only paypal but ebay as well will leave sellers this vulnerable. to the point where one will most assuredly be ripped off with the famous never received package etc.. or nothing was in the package. Ebay has completely shut down any ability to find out who you are truly dealing with.
So I have had to cancel 3 orders now. i have refunded payment immediately and then requested to cancel the order.
i know this will eventually haunt me and I will be banned from selling because my rating will drop as a result of the cancellations. What a mess.
Ebay has truly failed in this process. its disgusting. I know what a shady buyer looks like and what a shady address looks like. feedback as well. paypal funds on hold etc...
why did i share this?
wondering who else encounters this or is it only me because i am a new seller.
again, please refrain from the lecture . no disrespect meant.
i would like to stick to the issue . if i am totally misreading the situation then by all means tell me.
thank you . I am trying to build a small online business but I think it will be too difficult to achieve.

Op has had several $150 sales, but I dont know if those are the ones he canceled.

But you do not have to provide shipping back on a SNAD from another country, only from the original shipping point, correct? So the buyer would now have to pay to ship the item back to you- is that what happened?

Had 2 today, and that was after he started this thread.

and the paypal funds are always on hold.
I'm confused about what you're saying. Especially given that you say that you have received numerous other payments that weren't on hold.
Questions:
1. When you say the funds are on hold, what is (or rather WAS until you cancelled the sales) the status of payment shown in eBay - paid? or awaiting payment? or ....? Was eBay directing you to go ahead and ship?
2. What was the status of the payment in Paypal? On hold? or Pending?
The reason that I ask is that when the funds are on hold, that may be associated with YOUR account whereas if the payment is flagged as pending, that is associated with the buyer's account.
Sometimes foreign account payments are put in a temporary pending status on Paypal, only to be released as Completed within a few hours.
I truly wish that you'd come to this board before you took the action of cancelling the sales.

@bonjourami wrote:Could those 'sketchy' buyers with broken English and addresses that dont check out be using a reshipper? If so, you are only responsible for shipping to the reshipper, and the buyer has lost protection using that service. Since you have been here since '98,and you are aware that canceling three transactions will probably get you blocked from selling here, Im not sure why you decided to do that, but thats your business.
Unfortunately, according to a blues, this is not necessarily true or the end of the matter any more. On one of the weekly chats, it was mentioned that ebay is taking a modified stand because some of the buyers 'may work for a re-shipper', with that as the delivery address, and therefore may be making a real claim.

in correct address
You mean "problem with buyer's address"?
If the buyer has purchased anything else on eBay successfully using that address, selecting this reason could come back to bite you. eBay checks now, since it's often used by sellers as a reason to avoid a transaction defect that they may actually deserve for being out of stock or a similar seller-at-fault reason. You need to be very careful about deciding to offer this cancellation reason.

Yes, you are right..I remember seeing that too..seems that selling with reshippers has gotten to be a slippery slope.

you wont get a defect for cancelling using problem with buyers address, so thats good.

Dang, for real??
This obviously will change the advice given when it comes to reshippers. How long has this been in effect?
@southern*sweet*tea @bonjourami
Unfortunately ebay has "watered down" the seller protection from reshipping. They haven't changed the words, but they sure have changed the meaning of the words, which has the same effect as nullifying seller protection from reshipping.
Anything to make the buyer happy, and just about always to pass that cost onto the sellers is now ebay policy, imho.

Well alrighty then
It'll be interesting to see if there's an uptick in the number of int'l customers who are employed by their reshippers in another country.

In 1998, only auctions were available.
Today they are down to 15% of listings and most of those, like yours, offer Buy It Now (at a higher price than opening) or Best Offer (at a higher price than opening).
Today's consumer does not like auctions. She wants Instant Gratification.
Which is why we see so many complaints about deadbeats on auction sales.
However, you can open an Unpaid Item Dispute 96 hours after the auction closes (48 hours if you are in the USA). You can close it an get your FVF back 96 hours later.
But the real answer is not to bother with Auctions.
They have followed up with emails using broken english.
A good sign of a scam. Not the broken English, but the fact that they bother to follow up rather than just pay.
The addresses do not check out on google maps
If you ship to a non-existent Paypal (not eBay) address, eventually the shipment will come back to you.
If Google Maps is out of date, and tracking shows delivery, you are protected from claims of non-delivery.
and the paypal funds are always on hold.
Which is Paypal and eBay protecting you against Unpaid Items. Do NOT ship until the payment has cleared. Even if it is still on Hold (which is a Buyer Protection, btw) you can still use the Held funds to buy a PP shipping label.
So I have had to cancel 3 orders now. i have refunded payment immediately and then requested to cancel the order.
I hope you used "Problem with address" because otherwise you probably got a Defect.
or is it only me because i am a new seller.
Ah, when you said you had been here since 1998, I thought you were an experienced seller.
And yes, it is you and it is because you are a new seller.
There are restrictions on new and occasional sellers because they often are unaware of the rules and quirks of the site.
Like that Hold on your customers' payments. And the number and value of listings you can make.
These can change and will as you gain experience.
Second tip.
If you are using the Simplified Sell Your Item form, go to the Upper Right and look for a link that moves you to the Advanced/Business SYI. It is clearer and gives you more options.
What it doesn't do is default you into the dying Auction format, which seems to be most of your problem.
Third.
Don't use all CAPS in your titles. It's hard to read.
Fourth.
Don't use unnecessary words in your titles, like "really works" No one Searches on that. They do Search on "paint additive" . I had to read the description to see what you were selling.
Fifth
Use a plain background. Do you own a white sheet or tablecloth?
