Of course they say "better than expected" while many are suffering on a broken site, lol.
I guess it sounds good for them to say $285 million of revenue from PL being up 27%, when that directly comes out of sellers pockets while at the same time eBay has seen a DROP in GMV. So we're paying 27% more for less sales....
And it is extremely frustrating every time they bring up how they "launched guaranteed fit to help shoppers find their parts"... When it was a feature that was ALWAYS THERE and has been broken for 4+ YEARS NOW and they still haven't fixed it!

Hey, that's great. I'm glad all those people can afford 3 of 4 houses.
It doesn't go into great detail regarding why Ebay can't hire actual human employees that, you know, can assist users of their platform 🤣

Make of it what you will....

I had a couple of sales recently, which was better than I expected.

Easy way to check if eBay's earnings will be 'good'. I have a stellar track record if you go through my prior replies on this topic.
eBay will continue dying a slow death until they get back to focusing on the customer experience.

I've yet to put out a press release but my first quarter results were worse than expected

GMV down (again) though not as much as I had anticipated. So, that is better than expected, anyway.

I’m glad to see where all my profits are going. Maybe eBay can continue raising PL’s %’s so they can maintain healthy quarters.

Interesting graph but where's 2021, 2022?

It took me little effort to upload the graph in My Pictures folder.
Maybe someone else will come along and post the more recent years.
Disclaimer: Those recent years will have inflated numbers from Pandemic shopping habits.
I am not concerned about the Q1 numbers.
I have plenty of inventory for the one brand I hoarded years ago.
Plus, I can pull as many better selling parts off of salvage cars as I feel like.
eBay will remain a money maker for me for years regardless of how they are doing overall.

The main reason I listen to the Quarterly earnings call is to see if ebay gives any indication of changes "coming soon" to the platform. I didn't really hear much, but the main thing ---about Visual search and ChatGPT in listings---can be found here:
04-26-2023 07:28 PM
I would prefer not to have AI involved in my eBay process, listings, or anything else. I'm not interested, don't see the value, and I'm not sure it would be appropriately implemented (and not break functionality for buyers and sellers, or add incorrect information - the way it gives out incorrect information elsewhere).
To my view, AI or ChatGPT is at present the "latest shiny gadget" and incorporating it into places where it doesn't actually do anything helpful is going to tarnish a lot of brands and make them look pretty silly in the future.
I think there are absolutely places where these technologies will be revolutionary or at least disruptive. But at least as many where trying to shoehorn it into a space it doesn't fit or do anything helpful, will be a drain on productivity - in a BIG way.

@onlinecentral - FYI that graph is using old data from before eBay redefined GMV and restated figures back to 2018.
That means using those numbers to compare to current GMV wouldn't be useful any way because they were using a different definition back then, so it's not an apples to apples comparison.
Marketplace Pulse has a good update chart showing the restated figures from 2018 to now.
