ebay puts Rule Following Sellers (RFS) thru hell

Here's my story.  Feel my pain.  A buyer buys a painting from me.  I gave 40% discount, free shipping, shipped early and upgraded shipping.   No returns on my listing.  She gets the item and decides it doesn't match something in her house.   We correspond.  She admits it was her mistake and begs to accept the return.  I say no, because I did nothing to warrant a return.  She opens a return request.  I contact ebay twice to discuss her request.  They advised us to try to work it out, and say the earliest ebay could get involved was 4/9/18. They also reviewed the corresondence while I was on the phone and advised that I was in the right.   I committed to getting them involved on 4/9/18.  Today, 4/7/18, I get an email stating the buyer filed and won a case.  No way ebay reviewed the correspondence as they said they would.  I contacted ebay immediately and spoke with three different people.  I asked them to explain how they could have reviewed the correspondence and draw the conclusion they did.  They could not anwser that.  I reamed them good (like they care), explaining what the put RFS's through.  The lying buyer (who stated the item was different than what was listed) gets to sit back and collect her money, while I have to jump through hoops.  They advised me to appeal once I receive the item back.  Great resolution!  SOMEONE GIVE ME A GOOD OPTION TO SELLING WITH EBAY!!!!  They treat good sellers like criminals.

Good Guy.

I've never returned anything I've bought here either (including a lovely laserdisc that I ordered, thinking it was a set of DVDs.  My fault, so I donated it to our library).  wink

There is really no such thing  as a '' no returns'' policy available to sellers . It's puzzling why  e bay adds it to the listing page . Tulips

Sure there is. Unfortunately, unscupulous buyers use the MBG loophole to go around it.

I recently had a remorse return that the buyer tried to claim SNAD on and it was just closed in my favor.

And that's what the no returns policy is for.  You don't accept buyer's remorse returns.  The MBG overrides in cases of SNAD, not as described, but yes, sadly some do file false SNADS.

Congrats on the closed remorse return that was decided in your favor!

They kind of proved it was remorse on their own 🙂 I did nothing but call and have a competent rep look at it 🙂

You are absolutely right! If they cannot return it one way they will do it the other way and that way hurts even more! (Seller has to pay return shipping). One way to control the fake SNADS would be to take that option entirely off the list. Instead of being able to just tap a button they should have to contact the seller first. That would cut down on a lot of it.

That is terrible thats why I get nervous about selling my art on here. So far Ive been lucky but to have someone do that especially when you were willing to work with them and give them discounts and faster shipping is just aweful.

You know how we get emails all the time from eBay wanting us to lobby against sales taxes? Well, write them a letter similar to what you wrote us, and add that you do not feel inclined to lobby on their behalf unless they clean up their act on customer service.

You do realize that eBay refunded the buyer anyhow, right?  If it was inside the 30 days, that is policy.  Luckily, the seller didn't have to do so from their funds, but that buyer almost assuredly received a refund.

I agree with this and have posted about it on other threads.  The "No returns" setting should be eliminated unless eBay is going to get their nose out of a Seller's business.  eBay gives the impression that its a Seller's business but when they get involved and make decisions behind the seller's back, and too often in favor of the Buyer, then its being very deceptive and manipulative.

There have been a number of posts of various threads about brick and motor Retail stores changing their return policies, making them more strict, becuase of the money lost on returned items that they can not re-sell.  THAT trend will continue and more and more stores will follow suit.

Hey, we are ALL Buyers of something and our buying habits have and always will be influenced by the marketplace.  Years ago, and before stores were open on Sundays, everybody made sure they had their shopping done and the gas tank filled before Saturday ended.  I would love to see those days return and see brick and motor stores closed for a good part of the weekend AND at 12 midnight during the week.  Can this "open 24/7" routine and I bet you that online sales would increase as a result ...

Re: ebay puts Rule Following Sellers (RFS) thru hell

Why does Ebay even have a No Returns option?  This is one where the decision to not permit the return sounds like a no-brainer.

I try to avoid selling anything on Ebay where shipping cost is high.  I prefer to sell small, light items.   I get annoyed enough when somebody lies to avoid paying <$3 in return shipping.

If I had to cover >$20 in return shipping (& already out the shipping there) on a $100 item because the buyer lied, I would be beyond furious.

Re: ebay puts Rule Following Sellers (RFS) thru hell

I am having the same problem I have been selling on ebay for 18 years. I have been a top seller Plus for quite sometime now. jumping through Ebays hoops, offering free shipping and shipping withen 24 hours. i have maintained a 100% Feedback rating, Ebay has changed recently to cater to the big box stores and the buyer is always right. Even the big box store have moved away from the customers is always right. I have loved ebay for so lone because the little guy can make a little extra cash. I avoid any big box sellers like target and amazon and try to buy from people like me. I sell on ebay to be able to stay at home with my special needs daughter and my other 7 children. I have learned to cover my own but over the years by offering several photos of each item, every angle and also photos of the tags. I provide more measurements then any stores web site would, but it just is not enough any more, with ebay's new no hassle free return policy they want everyone to have will shut us small business sellers down. the latest issue is a buyer wanted to return an item 13 days after receiving it in the mail saying the item was not new and the size tag was faded and falling off. mind you the item they bought and I sent them was new. in the listing i provided photos of every angle and the size tag . ebay still approved the return even after opening a buyers return fraud case and i  explained the issue with the return to them. After talking to ebay on the phone it is clear they are catering to the buyer more then the seller. I explained that i will not be taken advantage by the buyer. the Ebay lady i talked to sounded more like a recording stating over and over again about how Ebay wants to cater to the buyer and making sure they have a good buying experience. Ok i want that too but flat out lying to get fee return shipping.  I told her if I waked in the a big box store and tried to return a different used item in place of the new item I just bought I would be laughed at. I was told I could open a appeal after the item is returned. I did let ebay know I would be making more money for them then that customer will. my feed back rating and long selling status without any issue should stand for something when Ebay is making the decisions.  I sell and buy off ebay.  Ebay needs to find the balance between keeping customers and sellers happy. If ebay only is trying to keep the buyers happy they are going to loose a lot of sellers.

Re: ebay puts Rule Following Sellers (RFS) thru hell

Ebay ofers no protection for sellers.  CS reps give false information and won't back it up when you call them on it.  Ebay is a great place to be a thief or a scammer.  Just open a Not as Described Claim and the seller has no choice either accept the return and hope it is the right item they send back.  Or don't and ebay will still force the return.  Plus you have to pay for the shippping.  So to me a return is an automatic loss of money.

Even after winning an appeal on a case, I still lost the money involved in a transaction.  The thief gets to keep my money and products, as well as still being active ebay.  The CS rep said my seller rating wouldn't be affected.  Whoop dee do, nobody cares about a seller rating, I just want my money back.

I am looking for a new place to sell outside of ebay.

Re: ebay puts Rule Following Sellers (RFS) thru hell

We would jst return refund and block.  No sellers are winning any cases that deals with returns.   If they want to return they win.   Hopefully you get the item back because a lot of sellers are not.   Best regards

I am glad it is just you. Because that kind of action is what makes sellers go broke.

I know of number of sellers that have No returns and No refunds   and  have  won  Snads  and returns  filed by the buyer . Ebay and paypal  backed up those sellers. Those sellers   the extra item details in the listings  .  They  had 100%  details  up  front which included any defects on  the item ,if it had any.     As long as the seller gives full details  about  the item  that they have No returns and no refunds  ,Both ebay  and paypal  said they would cover that seller .
