Tried to post an item as auction. I was informed it would cost $10.50 to list as auction. that's crazy. where are these absurd fees coming from? last time I posted a similar priced item for auction the fee was $1.50.

Hi, depending on whether or not you have a store, generally the insertion fee is 30 cents once you have used up your quota of free listings a month. Did you use one or more of the optional listing features that has a fee attached, such as having a reserve or having a subtitle? At the bottom of the listing form, eBay will show you what the charges are to list the item.

They have promoted listings now, you might have accidentally checked the box. Check over the listing form.

Promoted Listings cost exactly the same to list as a non-promoted listing.

Did you have the auction to have a reserve? That can make it expensive.
Reserve-$5.00 or 7.5% of reserve price, whichever is greater (maximum fee $250)
This fee applies whether or not your item sells

I use straight auction listings now. MY fees are zero to list.
But I do not have a store, I do not use a second category, I do not promote, etc. I also list less than fifty items.
So somewhere in what you are doing to list as an auction, you are utilizing extras.
Which is fine, but in doing so, you can, and most likely will, pick up some hefty fees.
COYOTES RULE!!!

Ever wonder how they justify all those hefty extra fees though ? Or is it just because they need to tap into every successful sale even if it doesn't end up being successful at all ? Tulips

Imo ,, they should just do away with reserves , it's far too expensive for most sellers . Tulips

This has happened to me on different occasions on fixed prices too. When it happened to me, I canceled the potential listing and start all over again. That always solved the issue with me. It's a software glitch, not anything I did.
This also worked for bulk relisting when I had extra free insertion promotion.
Hope this fix works for you too! 🙂

They also run off bidders and are a gross waste of time. But they still get used and are a profit center for ebay.

Many times, a "reserve" is a kiss of death. A prospective bidder will see that on a listing, and automatically think: "Well, I wont' be able to steal anything here"....And moves on,

I don't have a store and i didn't click on any optional listings. i just listed it normal as an auction and it said "10.50" in fees and of course add the final value fee, seller fee, paypal ect and i would make nothing.
