i have been selling on ebay for 16 years and to many time i have realized theres not much protection for saler, if a buyer trys to scam you ebay will tell you to except the return then if you get a different item back they will do a investigation then favor the buyer and allow the buyer to scam you even if you are a good seller with good feedback 1 person with no feedback trying to scam you will mess up your good profile. then ebay will start charging you higher fees for having a problem like there fees aint allready high enough. ebay really needs to protect there sellers better and not treat them like oh well if i loose one we still have millions more salers to take advantage of.

Sellers are not allowed to give buyers negative feedback. Not fair.

I have been a seller on ebay for 18 years and they have never required a receipt for anything I have sold. What if it is old family stuff you sell, or flea market, yard sale, or something someone has given you?

Yes I agree if an item takes longer than 60 days to sell...it should be marked down...and continue being marked down every 30 days.

The retail industry on the whole has a one percent "failed transaction" rate.
Is your annual rate more or less than that?
The outlier here is Amazon with 40% failed transaction rate, mostly unexplained returns.
The usual problem sellers run into is thinking that a No Returns policy is a No Refunds policy.
We can have the first, and eBay will assume you mean you never want to see the item again, but the Money Back Guarantee means we cannot have a No Refunds policy.
And arguing with that is how many sellers get Defects, and with them higher fees, restrictions on number and value of listings, or even closed accounts.
So what happened?

Until you've been selling for 90 days and sold 25 items your payments will be held until tracking shows delivered, or in 21 days if there's no tracking. They can hold the payment for the full 21 days if you're selling in a high risk category.

"The site could STILL stand to lose another 100,000,000."
I think that sounds like a good number

Your Response is calm,factual,and professional.
I would have added "Offered refund if returned.Buyer kept doll." which to my mind makes you look open to discussion, while the buyer looks illiterate from their grammatical and spelling mistakes.
Since you also buy on this account, the neg will disappear from your first page all the sooner.
And, FWIW,most buyers seem to think 95% is an A+, so your 97. 5 s excellent in their eyes.

As a seller who accepts that many of my collectibles are going to wait for the right buyer, I would oppose having items drop off after X days.
EBay did at one time put a Note on active Listings that had been around without a sale for 16 months. But these days it seems they just drop long tail items without informing the seller.
I find these when I go through my stock for a Show, removing a certain category that a show buyer has asked me to bring, only to find it is no longer listed on eBay.
Other sellers will report that their own records show they have eg 1500 listings, but eBay is only showing 750 or so. Usually it is the longtail/stale listings that have dropped.

what are some examples of high risk catagories? Electronics?

Electronics, horse tack, dolls, jewelry, coins, designer purses -- and anything that appeals to the criminal demographic (male, 15-35) so highpriced sneakers and designer's "casual" clothing.
