ebay authentication of items

Can a necklace with no gemstones be sold without authentication by ebay, for over $1000?

Thanks!

Re: ebay authentication of items

@2bwise1

My question would be…why would you not want to? I have found the authenticity program to be excellent. I have sold some high end jewelry as well as a couple of handbags. I want the customer to know they got what they paid for.

If a piece of jewelry had no stones and was over $1000 it would , I assume, to be gold, or platinum. It would be helpful if you mentioned what it is.

Re: ebay authentication of items

Yes from what I see on auctions.

Some have authentication and some do not.

Auction can start at .99 and go over $1000. from what I see on auctions.

Some auctions start over $1000. from what I notice.

The important factor is checking a buyer...do they have feedback....are they a new buyer on eBay...and what have they bought in the past...and what country are they from as to where it will be "freight forward" perhaps.

Best way to find out if this item would be covered under EBAY Authentication Program is to list the item.   Then go back into listing and see if your item shows that it will go to an authenicator.  Below is EBAY  authentication policy.

  • listed at $500 or more, or sold in an auction for $500 or more

Re: ebay authentication of items

As @caldreamer posted, it depends on the brand, composition and other factors.  If it qualified for AG then there is no way of selling it without going through the program.

Re: ebay authentication of items

The AG is just as beneficial to the seller as it is to the buyer. Maybe more so.

Have you looked at the AG terms of service to see all the benefits and protections it gives?

Re: ebay authentication of items

Thank you for your help.  The necklace is an antique Victorian/possibly Georgian silver book chain with locket.
