I just saw a new box on my listing form the other day...it says 'ePid'. After reading and reading, I still cannot figure out what it does or what it is for. I sell coins, so I rarely use the product catolog. Is it something I am supposed to be using?
I know nothing about this...
Thanks.

Oh, you should go on the TECHNICAL DIFFICUTY and POWER SELLER boards to read up on this fiasco pronto!

And don't worry Ebay will fill it in for you if you don't.

The ePID is the eBay Product ID. (Similar to Amazon ASIN)
It is a number that eBay assigns to items that do not have a UPC (and adds as an addition to the UPC) It is used to generate the Product Pages.
If you know what this number is, you can enter it ... otherwise, eBay will assign it

ePID is eBay's latest abomination "product ID" number for its catalog. According to a blue on the 11th, it wasn't supposed to be 'live' yet, but it hasn't been removed from listing. I suspect it is also instrumental in the current nearly complete break of the search function.
Be aware that even if you don't associate your item with an ePID, eBay will do it for you. Happened to us yesterday.

It stands for = Ebay Product ID
It is a global reference ID that is used on product pages (comparison shopping). Not a lot of pages are set up yet so it will be hard to find the number at this point.
I will assume eBay will be auto inserting this EPID to correct listing that are all the same item (UPC codes, etc)
You can also find it manually if you go to http://www.ebay.com/ctg/
This link is the product pages eBay is setting up right now. I do not think anything is in there yet but you can look around and see by clicking some of the category links.
For now just know that eBay is working on this and I think I read somewhere they will be able to combine exact items automatically and insert this number when that happens.
Good Luck Selling!

Yes. eBay is going to catalog the world??? Condition issues and all? Depeding on your point of view, putting in the wrong number can he hilarious or scary. Saw screen shots yesterday of a person's listing for a purse being morphed into one for a book.

Well, they have had 20 years or more to sort out the ISBNs for books and that turned out great so I can't wait to see what a joy using ePID will be.

Thanks to everyone for the fast answers!
I am not a fan of Amazon's ASIN because they practicallyforce you to put one in..I hope it never comes down to that here.
Thanks again, and I appreciate all of the replies!

Looked at that page and bookmarked it for future reference if they ever get around to actually filling it all out.
Notice Magazine Back Issues are on there. I have over 1,000 magazines which are all different: different magazines, different issue dates, different conditions. How on earth will they generate a PID for each of those? And I really wish they had called it something other than PID.

Yes, your item has been associated with a "similar" product 😞

Am I the only person getting an error message when I tried to go to the catalog page? I've tried clicking the link, cutting and pasting and manually typing in the address.
