Woke up this morning. first thing I see is that I sold something.
Get to eBay and there sits a message. "A buyer wants to cancel an order"
ugh.....
but then.... "Reply to the buyer soon" followed by "Don't keep the buyer waiting - see the cancel details and reply to the buyer..."
Quick! Your buyer bought this and wants their money back! Jump! the buyer is King!
I'm kinda shocked that eBay hasn't taken away our ability to handle these situations and just jump at the buyer and give them a refund plus an apology $20 for their time.
Also got a message from the buyer. stupidity should be painful!
I am selling 8 bowls. the pic is 8 bowls the quantity available is 8. from my listing.... "Listing is for 1, but I have a quantity of 8 available. "
Any guesses why they wanted to cancel? they thought that for $9 they were getting 8 bowls! Bowls that others are selling at $100 for a set of 4..... Bowls that regularly sell for $10 each..... These are brand new with a combined MSRP close to $300. So sure i'd sell a set of 8 for $9 then charge $12 to ship them across the country! Why not!
Oh, then to add insult, after i refund this buyer, ebay still shows it sold so I had to go in and manually fix the count back to 8.....
All before my coffee.

Since you immediately figured what the problem was, I would be proactive and change my photo for the future. I assume they look identical enough that your are comfortable offering the quantity option, so show only one.
Yeah, that 1 hour "request" isn't much of an option. You either accept or lose your final value fees.

going through emails I see another....
"There are eyes on your item" drop the price!!!!!!!
The item has been listed just over a day. it is the lowest price for that item on eBay and it has been listed for 1 day and 4 hours when the email was sent.
WHY?????

Your picture is misleading.
You should only be picturing one bowl.
This one is all on you IMHO.

It is. But why? Who has taught buyers that they don't need to read?

Wait just a minute. You mean to tell me that if I am sleeping, it is 3 am. that if a buyer buys something and I don't awaken to cancel and refund then I am assessed fees?

The seller is the one who suffers when buyers misunderstand listings. Therefore it is in the seller's best interest to produce clear listings. That means don't show pictures of things you don't have.
Once a couple of the bowls sell, that picture will be a lie anyway.

No, to add insult, you lost 30cents for a transaction that wasn`t completed and the "buyer" can still leave you feedback AFAIK.

There are some really, really naïve, conniving, dishonest, or smart buyers out there, you will never know if you get one of those until a return.
I take pictures of a lot and I specify "I repeat, you will get only one". Why do I take that picture? Because buyers sometimes are looking for sets, or 3 or 5 of the same thing, so they have the ability to buy them one at a time or all.
I have lots of plates and related items for sale, but I am hesitant to sell them because of the returns, they are becoming too expensive to ignore.

I know not to do what this seller has done, picture more than one bowl. However many sites, sites hosting their own product, show more than one in a picture. It's only on the gotcha sites that this is a concern, not being able to read.

So I list this as one, show a picture of one and all I get are people wanting to buy 1.
I don't think there is a single person out there who would buy one, and only own 1. these are owned in sets. People have 8, 12 of them.

Often I list in sets of two or four, buyers like even numbers. Or, you can write the words several available in your title. That title will be good until you only have one of them left.
