eBay user wanting to purchase ASAP before auction ends

Hey all,

I'm kind of new to selling on eBay so not sure what people would consider 'dodgy'

I've listed up an expensive laptop around the £1000 mark, I got 2 messages yesterday asking for my best price, I said I would be expecting at least £1050 for my item.

One of them got back to me and said they'd be happy to pay that + the shipping (my auction doesn't have any bids at the moment) and requested my Paypal email so they can send payment.

I don't want to (not sure if you're able to) adjust my starting price to add a BIN option,

Can someone let me know if this is a normal eBay selling thing or does it leave me vulnerable to losing my eBay protection ext?

Thanks

It’s an old scam. They will send you an email saying you have been paid but nothing will be in your account.

Do not end auctions early.  The odds of it turning out well are not good. Next only ship to the address ebay gives you.

Newer seller - selling in a high risk category - you're ripe for scammers. As stated - DO NOT give anyone your info or end the auction. Please beware that often - even if purchased correctly - a buyer will receive the item - claim Not as described and then send back something other than the Laptop you sent. Although there are plenty of successful sellers here that sell laptops - they have years of sales under their belt and can take the hit if they get scammed - most new sellers can not afford to lose that type of money.

A rule of thumb here is if you can't take the hit - don't list it! Doesn't matter the category!

A sure sign they are trying to scam you is requesting your Paypal email address.  There is no reason they need this to pay you since payment is made through the ebay transaction.

Since you are a UK seller, you might want to check the UK discussion boards to see if members using ebay.co.uk are experiencing the same scams as they are for ebay.com (mainly North America) members.

Besides all the above, you can't give away your email address through Ebay. If caught, you will be suspended since there's no deals between you and the alleged buyer. Once he wins the auction, then you can see his contact information.

Yes, they are going to rip you very wide open with a scam.
