eBay should add option for DDP shipping (de minimis removed, tariffs now apply)

Problem:

Many international sellers list their items on eBay.com. Since the new U.S. tariff rules came into effect, duties must now be paid on almost everything. Local postal services in many countries have even stopped accepting packages going to the U.S., because USPS and U.S. Customs require packages to be customs-cleared before arrival.

This leaves sellers with two options:

DDP (Delivered Duty Paid): The seller pays all duties and taxes upfront. The buyer only pays the item price + shipping, and the package arrives with no extra costs.

Duties Unpaid: The buyer receives a surprise bill on delivery, often higher than the item’s actual value.

Carriers like UPS and DHL support both methods.

The issue on eBay:

Right now, eBay automatically shows this message on all listings from outside the U.S.:

“Due to U.S. policies, import fees for this item will need to be paid to customs or the shipping carrier on delivery.”

This message is only accurate when sellers use duties unpaid shipping. But many sellers, including myself, want to offer DDP shipping so that buyers have no surprise costs at delivery. Unfortunately, eBay provides no way for sellers to indicate this. As a result, buyers may be discouraged from purchasing because they think they’ll face extra fees—even when they won’t.

Request:

Can eBay add an option for sellers to select DDP shipping? This would remove or change the misleading message and clearly show buyers when all duties are already covered.

Why would a seller want to pay the buyers import taxes?

Have a great day.

no one said you should pay the import taxes for any buyer, but this DDP shipping option is available and if it suits someones business it can be very helpful, i was just asking to have that option available to choose, if some sellers decide to offer that, it can be helpful as the costs can be added in the item price or shipping price and the buyer will not have any bad surprises like a huge tariff bills at delivery, because that surprise bill will just lead to bad feedback, additional cancellations, even refusing deliveries and charge backs.

Of course everyone should decide what suits for them and their business model.

it is optional, every seller can decide if they want to do that or not and it is not paid by the seller, it is just pushed from here to there to avoid conflicts with buyers, like adding those costs in item price and or shipping with the extra fees of course, it is better than having constant issues with buyers claiming to pay huge tariff bills which lead to bad feedback, additional cancellations, even refusing deliveries and charge backs. Those issues are not healthy for a working business model, buyers want comfort and that is what this option gives them, for sure for a higher price, but as mentioned offering lower prices and risking everything afterwards is also not a good solution

with that, i did not meant that ebay should start doing that their self, like a service they offer, with that what i meant was to add an additional shipping option, like when you list on ebay.com, the US website, sellers from overseas can choose like standard/economy/express shipping from outside of the US, just like those options, there should be an option for DDP shipping from outside of the US, so that if a seller chooses that shipping option, the buyers sees that this seller is offering DDP shipping and if a buyer buys from this sellers, it would not have to pay any Tariffs / Duties / extra charges, so that message which ebay is displaying : “Due to U.S. policies, import fees for this item will need to be paid to customs or the shipping carrier on delivery." would not be applicable if the sellers chooses that shipping option with DDP. So every seller can decide what shipping they want to offer, DDP or not, my point there is to have buyer know that if any seller is interested in offering that service, the buyer should know that, otherwise offering that does not make any sense, as even if i pay for the tariffs and the buyer does not know that, the buyer would still not buy or think it will have to pay for the tariffs and fees

If you add the import taxes to the price of the item, how would you know how much extra to charge for the item?

Some sellers are already complaining the fee's are to high, so I don't see many that would want to pay more in fee's if the buyers import taxes was included in the item price.

Have a great day.

I can see it now. The deluge of sellers who choose to ship DDP and complain when Ebay charges a FVF on the duty, like it does on VAT with EIS.

I’m in Canada.  For what it’s worth, our postal system is making DDP shipments to the US available through a partnership with Zonos, and eBay Canada plans on rolling out its own version of eBay International Shipping (formerly the Global Shipping Program) starting in October.

You may have to be patient and prepared to switch your listings over to the .de site.

How does a seller find out what the tariff is on a specific item.........and how do they remit the tariff to US customs? and how do they prove to Customs that it's been paid?

I have a notice in my policies that says buyers are responsible for any taxes or fees charged by their countries. I’ve never had an issue.  I’m in the US, unfortunately, and many EU countries charge taxes on items over a certain value. None of those fees have ever been more than the item cost, or close to what it cost. I can’t afford to pay fees charged by another govt.

The reason foreign postal services aren’t accepting packages going to the US is that trump expects those services to collect the tariffs and then make payment to CBP.  No foreign delivery service, or FedEx, DHL, UPS are set up to do that, and really, not their job.

Yes, should be a duties paid model for international listings and require buyers to pay it at checkout. De minimis allowed eBay to effortlessly blend the American and international markets. Many probably didn't even realize they were buying from another country. That has changed. It's now a significantly more expensive and inconvenient experience buying internationally. I'm kind of surprised eBay hasn't started prioritizing US sellers for the US market again. If they continue pushing international listings to buyers without being more clear about the new fees they're going to scare buyers off their platform and ruin it for the rest of us. That tiny warning note that's easily missed at checkout is not enough. Either deprioritize or force a duties paid model on international listings.

I asked jeeves, and the closest answer I found was in an article from 2024:

"Botanists today voted to change the name of hundreds of plants to remove a racial slur in their scientific names. They also voted to allow a committee to evaluate new species names that could be offensive or derogatory, starting in 2026."  Yeah Botanists!
