They should acquire it or integrate a similar system. Could be huge for the younger generations and a way to bring more traffic.

Require what? Age limit to purchase or sell on ebay is 18. So what younger generations are you speaking of?

Thanks over 60 eyes here.

@ebooksdiva I have some coffee brewing over here.
I'm curious as to what people think about this. eBay would have to let it run pretty much independently or it would ruin it - the structure and intent is quite different than eBay's structure.
Etsy is bought Reverb and Depop.

"Missed out on the fancy pants your were bidding on? Check out these similar items on eBay" I can't imagine it would be hard for ebay team to integrate something like this.

Only integrate is a bit different than a simple link.
i.e., eBay would have to come up to speed on Whatnot's video/live format, and we're talking about a site having a tough time launching videos really at all. It would still be part of eBay, though.

No, they shouldn't. When I deal with eBay I want to deal with eBay. When I deal with Whatnot I don't want to deal with eBay. I'd be gone from Whatnot.

If ebay was to acquire Whatnot, they will do what ebay does best. That is to run it into the ground.

Seems to me to be a high labor effort with fees similar to Ebay and a much smaller audience.
They claim great results but are capacity limited which will not continue to be the case.
It is not clear to me that there is a shortage of marketplaces and venues. And some venues like Amazon already have too many sellers for the number of buyers.
Seems like a place one might try if it appeals to the way you want to do business, but whether it has a future is debatable. No reason to buy it - would be cheap to replicate.

I'm thinking it's more buy the market demographic.

They're already working on their own live auction thing. So outside of getting whatnots user base. Seems unnecessary.
eBay at least will have history of buyer habits to recommend auctions. Whereas, I believe with whatnot. It's better to have a big following.
