Printed a shipping label this morning and the eBay screen said it had to ship tomorrow.
I can't ship tomorrow because there is no mail delivery and the post office is closed...
Memorial Day is an Official USPS Holiday.
In the past eBay took that into account and I got a 'Must send by Tuesday' message... But not this time.
I had customer service call me and the Rep was very helpful and friendly but after checking with a supervisor I was told that though they saw that I couldn't send it I would get dinged for being late anyhow... And my only option would be to contact eBay after the 'ding' and have it removed. But I had another similar problem and when I tried to clear it up after the fact I was told after the fact it couldn't be changed.

I have two-day handling and for my items sold today it correctly shows to ship on May 27. I think the ding will probably be cleared off your record even if you receive one - eBay apparently has been erasing some of these dings due to the slow-downs at the post office.

Just print the shipping label on time and it should be okay . I think all they need is proof of shipment . I'm sending out three packages today that will all say'' shipped'' on May 25th although I can't really mail them until Tuesday. Tulips

You've been paid - Ship NOW" with no regard to handling time either, bar
I hate that,, especially when the post office is tying our hands together . Tulips

Ebay tells me to ship, I ship.
I put 15 outgoing parcels in my mailbox this morning and headed off to work... I did chuckle a little as I realized it's Memorial day but then I also saw at least one or two mail trucks driving around, wasn't entirely sure what to think about the whole thing...
When I got home the raised red flag was down and I opened the mailbox.
My outgoing packages were gone, I also received one incoming package.
So...
The physical Post Office building(s) may have been closed but mail most definitely traveled today.

This is a known glitch that seems to happen every year when using Ebay Labels. Evidently the offshore programmers have still not learned what days are holidays and corrected the program accordingly. In the past Ebay has informed Sellers after the fact that this problem will not effect their accounts and usually takes care of the situation. However if you do get hit with a shipping defect Ebay in its infinite wisdom will usually not remove it unless it causes you to lose your TRS status. Ebay just states that they do not remove defects or other similar issues even when they are erroneous unless it is going to have a monetary effect on your account.

"This is a known glitch that seems to happen every year when using Ebay Labels."
Right, Ebay has demonstrated for years that they can not handle the most basic software programming tasks. And that is why I do not want them handling the payment processing part of my sales- Managed Payments. I have been here over 20 years and I know what they are good at and what they are not good at. Ebay really has me pushed up against the wall with this forced managed payments change.
Yeah, I'm off topic, but someone just brought up a perfect example of Ebay's sloppy programming skills, yet they want to manage the payment system. Ebay taking over the payments system while initially being "just a venue" brings up a lot of questions.. How does any company actually become qualified to take on this business? What are the standards? Is it just a free for all system? How is what Ebay doing different from what a bank does? How does all this mesh into Commerce and Employment laws? As a seller am I now more "employee like" because Ebay is now paying me directly? The Paypal system was quasi-cash. Someone buys something and I can almost immediately withdrawal the cash at an ATM. Ebay is now holding the money, but who says how long they can hold it for? Where in the legal system would this even be covered?
What are the limits of Ebays expansion and powers? Can they force me to use only their shipping program like they are doing with the payment system? They already cut off my ability to communicate with customers to prevent off site sales (which I do not do, I believe Ebay deserves their commission). How far will Ebay wedge themselves between me and my customer to collect every possible cent? Would they go so far as to completely hide the identity of my customer and have me ship to an Ebay warehouse like they do with GSP?
My point is that sellers are slowly becoming invisible to buyers. All the ponderous "terms and conditions" sellers place in their listings are essentially meaningless. Ebay approves returns not sellers. Buyer are essentially buying product from Ebay and we are becoming drop shipping providers for Ebay. Except that drop shippers providers would have more control over their business than we do.
As sellers we (I should really say I) have not completely lost control over our business. But if you go back to the beginning there is definitely a trend of giving up more and more control of our business. Granted times change and Ebay has made changes to keep the site viable. It was a "free for all" for awhile, and not just on Ebay. But at some point buyers loose so much control that they are no longer an independent business. Sellers are sort of like employees but with no benefits, sort of like sub-contractors but with no contracting powers, sort of like drop shipping providers but under a performance contract and again with no contracting powers. In the beginning it looked like Ebay was provide a service to sellers (a venue), now it looks like sellers are providing a service to Ebay. It's actually a new class of labor with no protection or powers.
I am just venting, don't anyone get too worked up. Just wondering if any other sellers fell the same.

I dropped off all my packages today and they are already at the distribution center.
Just because the retail part of the post office is closed doenst mean there are no workers working.

Pretty much the same for me. 22 Years. I used to sell my children's clothes and toys, to buy more clothe's and toys in a larger size. As my children got a little older I started selling antiques, as I worked at an auction house. Then I got my own store, and still sold on Ebay. I felt like I was still representing my store. I packaged all of my items in lovely paper, and store tags. I had numerous return buyers, and my phone number was just a call away if they needed any information or had a problem with any item. I actually had many what I would call Ebay friends who would contact me about Victorian clothing, if they had a question about what an item was worth or how to take care of it. Now as years go by I'm just a number/seller. It is no longer a venue, but a drop ship service. I'm afraid to sell my expensive items because I got burnt on a $400 antique item at Christmas. I cannot afford to give my items away, and shipping grows ever more expensive, so buyers can just threaten a return to get a discounted item. If buyers have buyers remorse they just stick the seller with the shipping both ways by using the SNAD system. There is no protection for Sellers. I pretty much think Ebay has or will get rid of the rest of us old sellers one evaluation, or user agreement change at a time. I have gone back to doing the flea market at our fairgrounds, and Facebook. "I really enjoy the personal contact of selling my antiques again." Once the item is sold I do not have to worry about it being broken a couple of weeks after the sale and getting a broken item back in the mail. Good luck to you and God Bless.
