Ok so I sold a Nintendo 3ds xl in the listing I stated that it had no stylus and the 3ds slide did not work at all a few weeks later the buyer does a item doesn't match description so the return was automatically accepted and the reason for the return was the 3d slide doesn't work . Then when j received the console back the plastic housing around the console is busted in numerous places from someone either trying or disassembling the console with out any knowledge of them and how they come apart th 3d slide is completely gone now where it has been broken off and also the console is locked up now and when I shipped it was in very good condition with very few and minor scratches and scuffs in it and I received it back destroyed and worthless even for parts contacted eBay and they advised trybto work out a partial refund with the buyer they buyer never responded and eBay refunded the buyer before the deadline for me to refund them I filed 2 separate appeals and both times eBay decided in the buyers favor and the only explanation of why they decided that way is eBay has a money back guarantee and this isn't the first time this has happened to me. eBay promises sellers protection but I have still yet to see one in action just all empty promises also had a buyer leave negative feedback by mistake which eBay says they will remove if it is considered a mistaken negative. The feedback left from was simply said great seller but that did not qualify for eBay to remove. And I appolagize in advance for the rant just needed to get my weekly rant about eBay out there

That is very sad. This dishonest cheapskate wanted a cheap item to try to repair himself and when he screwed it all up he used the MBG from ebay to take advantage and return to you the junk he fouled up. Makes me so disgusted every time I read one of these stories. 😕
Very sorry for you OP.

“eBay promises sellers protection but I have still yet to see one in action just all empty promises.”
Exactly what seller protection promises are you referring to? Most everyone is aware eBay looks out for the buyer’s interests thru their Money Back Guarantee. Sellers have limited protections here, but some exist.
There are a few seller protections, like the block list, and Item Not Received claims will be found in the seller’s favor when tracking shows delivery. There are the Buyer Requirements and shipping exclusions. Occasionally in emergency situations like bad weather or the pandemic, eBay will grant a few temporary protections.
Sellers have to be savvy and know how to protect themselves, and use what tools eBay provides.

Is it possible that you listed this item as USED vs For Parts only in the Condition Box right below the listing title? A USED item must be fully functional/operational - you stated this item had a missing part and the 3d slide didn't work etc. in your written description. If so the condition stated in the Condition box will over ride any thing you wrote and eBay will side with the buyer every time.

If you want to sell your wares here, it's best to know the rules of doing so. There are pitfalls and potential situations that can and do cause you the seller, to lose money. Hearing the words "seller protection" doesn't mean much unless it's defined. What you thought it meant and what it means, are two different things.
As pointed out, there are actually very FEW meaningful protections. Even those mean nothing when the agreement says they can change any of it, at any time, without notice.
Hopefully you will now read ALL of the user agreement and come to a better understanding of it. Don't assume anything, because that gets you in trouble.

Selling products that do not work is just asking for a return, it does not matter what you put in the description. I sell some items as For Parts Only, Not Working and I hold my breath everytime I ship one of those items.

Two weeks ago, I sold a DVD clearly marked for Region 2. In addition, I added that to play in the USA, a Region free unit was required. The buyer filed a complaint stating the DVD would not play and later admitted he did not know what Region meant. I refused the return and was positive I would prevail, but I was wrong. I am now out 2 shipments and PayPal. As I knew the rules of the game before beginning to sell, I lumped it although I did not like it. This is a buyer's marketplace and that IS business!

(...a moment of silence...)
...so meaningful...!

I hope you at least get far less returns that way?
And in this case I thought about that but it still seems the seller really got hosed. The buyer took a minor issue and bungled the whole thing up and made it completely unusable and returned it for a full refund. Regardless of any of the other factors that is still disgusting to me. Buyer should've attempted the repairs at his own risk and accepted the outcome instead of using the seller as an risk-free 'experiment' 😞

Again, selling something that is not in working condition is just begging for it.

..."self-protection" is what you need when selling in any platforms or even having a "brick-&-mortal" business...

eBay provides zero assurances to the seller. They automatically side with buyers regardless of conversation history. I sold a 50 year old camera that was functional when I shipped it. The buyer broke the winding mech, claimed it was broken and returned it for a full refund. Leaving me with a broken 50yo camera to repair because they did not know how to use it. I am currently dealing with a buyer who is claiming item does not match description because they thought or assumed the item came with a non-standard part and are now claiming that it was omitted in the description. What ever happened to buyer due diligence?

That or he returned his already broken one in exchange for the one he got from the OP
Even if you list for parts not working in the title/condition/and description, it doesn't help, eBay is so pro buyer it's sickening.

what makes you think it is the same one you sent??
