I sold a vintage guitar for $2500. The listing price was 2795. They charged the 6% fee on the 2795.
Then they charged me a shipping fee in excess of what the customer had paid.
and finally they were withholding their payment to me for 20 days. I used to like eBay for small items, but this is egregious. I have to admit I like the fact that they control the customers payment not like Facebook marketplace where are you can send the money and never get the product. Where else can I go to sell items like this?

Not to sidetrack your post, but because eBay does charge you fees on what you charge the buyer for shipping, you may wish to revisit some of your shipping charges. $20+ for something that likely weighs less than a pound is sort of high and does discourage sales.

It is your responsibility to provide all of the information required to calculate the shipping fee, if you use calculated shipping.
If you provide different data when you pay for shipping, you get a different result,
Ebay FVF fees on shipping are in line with industry practice and exist because many sellers attempted to reduce fees by overstating the cost of shipping.
Payment holds exist because you have not earned the trust required to allow you to be paid for a large transaction. It could be as long as 30 days.
Facebook marketplace is much like Craigslist or a card posted on the supermarket bulletin board. If it succeeds expect more red tape.

All fees are listed.
There are no hidden fees.
You are the one who set up the listing and if you used calculated shipping, you are the one to put in the measurements and weight.
New seller will have up to 30 day holds. Also this information is not hidden.
You still have items listed and the FVF will be above 6% on most of them.

There are other platforms that specialize in musical instruments that can be a little easier to sell on. That guitar looked nice and the neck reset looked clean. I am sure the pick guard was replaced but even that was an excellent job. You should be able to see your fee breakdown under you sales invoice details. If you screenshot it and provide it, some may be able to decipher exactly happened.

If you were charged more shipping than what the customer paid, then that is not on ebay but on UPS. They are notorious for adding on charges after the sale. If you want to see the fees breakdown-go to the payments tab then click on transactions.

UPS Ground pricing can easily been 'figured' by going to their website and inputting the correct weight/size and or using Calculated here on eBay.
You apparently did NOT input the correct size/weight as a 12 lb package 40x20x8 would cost about $100 from GA to NV- and your listing says $31.
I could tell in an instant that your 'shipping price' was wrong for just this reason.
