This is a rare video game that is no longer made. I had it as $100 which is the going price on ebay, there are lots of other sellers selling it for $130+
eBay price gouging policy states: "Items that are considered essential must be offered at a reasonable price"
how is a video game an essential item? Am I no longer allowed to sell rare video games and risk my account being banned for price gouging? My price was fair, and it was the same price as before the virus.
eBay is getting a little ridiculous

This is REPREHENSIBLE and INEXCUSABLE. Perhaps this attempt at price fixing needs to be reported to some advocate in the media. There is no basis for removing any video game listing.
And, at the the same time, eBay allows sellers to sell $4 cans of Lysol disinfectant (a most essential item nowadays) for $60+, and laughs all the way to the bank.
Wasn't this site built by supply and demand in the first place? There would not be an eBay if not for the American free market system. And there won't be one in the future if they keep micro-managing their sellers in this fashion.
There are thousands of game titles available for kids to play for about $5. This is a collectible game in short supply, and offered at or below an established market price. And anyone can make a decision either to buy or not to buy.
The OP didn't raise the price during this crisis, and is being told to sell his collectible for even less while others are priced much higher. Why haven't the $130 games also been pulled???
Here is the problem: Policies and rules here are followed very inconsistently. If eBay really wanted to pull any and every high-priced video game off their site, it could easily be done. But they choose not to.
And in this case, they have correctly been "called to the mat", and have not produced any TRUE justification for the removal of this game, which is coveted by collectors in this condition. No one with restless 10 year old kids who need to occupy time are going to buy this anyhow. What an embarrassment.....
If I came up with a copy of, say, Action Comics #1 and listed it on here at a reasonable opening bid price of $50,000, would it be removed by eBay also? Kids are reading comics and other books much more often nowadays.
NO! This comic is extremely rare, and tattered examples go for up to $100K. So, again, there is no basis for this.

Wonder if this eBay oversight was first subject to a public shaming before the listing was rightfully restored????

More like it showed up on the auction bytes blog.

's not true neither, I had auctions get removed several of times when they got up there in price, I even had a customer asking me about a couple of them they were bidding on unfortunately.

They absolutely do! They've done it to mine

I am guessing that they were comparing your price for the physical out of production game to the price of the digital downloads and have now realized that that is for 2 different markets. BUT even if that was the case, they still shouldn't have removed your listing as it is not an essential product and afaik there is no law against charging more than someone else for non essentials...even in a pandemic. I'm glad that it got reinstated.

The difference is you're price gouging on household items that are currently under restrictions. You're breaking price gouging rules during a pandemic.
The original poster on this thread selling a collectible video game was not breaking rules.

He has said it's Doom Switch, new sealed in the original package. people can buy it used for about half the price he was asking and they can get a general download on it for $59. It's no longer in physical production
OK, got it. The OP never responded to me when I asked. The whole point was we needed to see what the item was before going crazy about it as typical board mantra does. It looks like it is all OK now, probably pulled because the word "doom" or something. People get really crazy here on the boards at times without having any facts. I checked complete sold items and they typically sell for around $75 so overpriced but not too bad.

Fair enough. eBay states that they made a mistake and they owned it. I can respect that. I'm glad to see that this ended in a positive result for you.

And, hopefully, the left hand will know what the right hand has done. 😁

I suppose that would be 'telling'. Well, I'm glad I got to read it and that it turned out well for you.
