Every couple months ,eBay comes up with new selling rules. It used to be a great spot to sell random stuff and hard to find stuff. During the covid pandemic, we started makign masks and selling them for $5. Nice , high quality hand made masks to help with income while being unemployed. Soon enough they blocked all mask sales and gave out " Warnings" ( threats with a gun to your head) .
Also , every while you receive new seller updates or in better terms, More ways to screw your sales.
The straw that broke the camel's back was managed payments. Not only does it allow more room for scamming but also takes 14% of total sales for nothing. Nothing at all.
If a seller is scammed by a spoiled buyer, eBay can easily take the loss and give both people their money. Instead you have sellers being scammed out of thousands of dollars in sales being sent back boxes of junk claiming item not as described. They're getting away with it!
This calls for a legal investigation on all fronts. There is something fishy going on and you hard working possibly unemployed sellers don't deserve to loose 1¢ of an honest sale because some loser thinks they can pull a fast one. It's not fair and you don't have to put up with it.
During Christmas season we shipped out items same day and they took over a month to get to their buyer. We lost $100's in claims and negative feedback. That was the last straw.
How do you deal with losses? Do you sell high value items? Do you like all the new seller "updates".
How's moderation on these forums? Kind of bullyish isn't it?
And whats up with all the losers saying " take the loss and move on" Since when was taking it quietly the new normal? How would you feel in a buyer claimed his $500 watch wasn't as described and sent you a box of bricks for tracking confirmation? Feels bad and takes food away from your child's mouth.

If a seller is scammed by a spoiled buyer, eBay can easily take the loss and give both people their money
If eBay reimbursed sellers and buyers after a dispute was filed, eBay would be out of business in a month. Billions of dollars in scams would be reported virtually overnight. How many MacBooks and iPhones and PlayStations could someone sell if all that was required was to send an empty box with tracking?
It's not fair and you don't have to put up with it.
No, you do not.
How do you deal with losses?
I take prudent steps to avoid them.
Do you sell high value items?
No.
Do you like all the new seller "updates".
I don't like the hike from 12.35% to 12.55%. I do like the additional free listings. MP works pretty well for me. None of the rest affects me all that much.
How's moderation on these forums? Kind of bullyish isn't it? And whats up with all the losers saying " take the loss and move on"
I find the moderation to be less bullying than the people who resort to name-calling the people they disagree with.
Since when was taking it quietly the new normal?
If by "the new normal" you mean "the reality of selling on eBay", then the answer is 2008 - when eBay introduced the Money Back Guarantee and sellers were forced to issue refunds for fraudulent disputes.
How would you feel in a buyer claimed his $500 watch wasn't as described and sent you a box of bricks for tracking confirmation? Feels bad and takes food away from your child's mouth.
I would feel terrible losing my children's food money selling expensive watches on eBay.

We're closing out our store ($100k+ per year in buying and selling activity on eBay) rather than move to managed payments. Having to pay the foreign exchange fee on all US sales now , having to pay a $20 dispute fee to report fraud, no longer being able to handle multiple currencies etc etc.
We video the opening of all returned packages. Also video the packing of all valuable shipments.
Don't sell high value items any longer. eBay requires a signature for Seller Protection for items > $750CDN. Canada Post hasn't collected signatures since COVID began a year ago.

I hope the best of luck to you. Better to cut your losses than keep on losing. Stop the bleeding of money. There is a better way. No one has collected signatures since last year ( in USA / MI at least ) . Even then, the user can always claim not as described and send you a ton of bricks for tracking confirmation.
I read this and it broke my heart causing me to write this.

Not literally, but metaphorically . It's either submit or be terminated.

I've seen the best of the best with a head for business, but not a stomach for it. Those who have been in other fields of business can concur that eBay is a walk in the park compared to the ruthlessness of other types of businesses. Losing money is just as much part of a business as making money. Hopefully, your risk/reward meter is in tune, and you can base your future decisions on past successes and/or failures. Complaining or excuses for everything that you don't like makes each day a very long day at the office. We too took bumps from the Christmas mailing fiasco, but not enough to out-weight the amount of buying during our busiest season. eBay did not hold any late arrivals against us, we ultimately lost about 7 out of 200 packages sent. Many forget that so many businesses have had to either close or teeter on the edge for a year now. Not to expect $1 in loss due to this situation is unreasonable.
