Got that right. Some time ago when I was still using Google I did research on a subject. No interest in buying, just wanted back ground information for a later project. Within 30 minutes or so my email account was flooded with ads from companies selling that product.
Then I switched to DuckDuckGo - same type of research - ZERO spam emails.

That has happened to me more than once.
The internet is listening as well....especially since everyone has a cell phone.
But I suppose are desk top computers have eyes and ears on us as well.

So do most other web sites.

Facebook does this all the time. The wife and I will be talking about something, say a house we saw for sale and the next thing you know she is getting local real estate ads on Facebook. Facebook on her phone is always listening.

You can block with a faraday pouch built just for that purpose. You'll have to turn your phone off first though or the battery will run down trying to find a cell tower. Also you won't be receiving phone calls and texts won't be available until you remove the phone.
