What a total rip off!!! How many times does one have to pay sales tax on an item. I bought and resold this item because it was the wrong part. Look at the fees ebay charged me!! 150 bucks on a 650 dollar item. What a complete scam. We’re not partners. You don’t get a cut of 25% of my item. That’s ridiculous. I could understand maybe 15-25 bucks max!! Never again!! Beware people. Use marketplace. It’s free!!!!

You have sold over $100 items and you just learned about selling fees ? It is clearly stated, might want to check out seller help pages.

You don’t get a cut of 25% of my item.
They get what they determine they want based on it being their platform you are CHOOSING to use.
If you made your own marketplace you could decide your cut.
Selling on eBay isn't forced.

No one ever pays sales tax on the item. Sales tax is a type of consumption tax, not a tax on merchandise. It is paid by the consumer at the time of the transaction. The same item -- such as a car -- may be subject to sales tax several times, at different rates in different states, over its lifespan. But surely I'm telling you what you already know.

You willfully listed the item agreeing to the fee structure. You then willfully promoted your item which required agreeing to that fee as well. Why didn’t you read what you were agreeing to?

Beware people. Read the User Agreement and selling fees. It’s free!!!!

This is a bright side to this, since you pay a lot in fees, you have more expenses to declare when you file your taxes. I do not recommend that you list anything until you know exactly what the fees are. The same with promoting.

I suggest that you end your other listing.
Fees will be charges on that as well if it sells.
If it was promoted, depending upon which promotion used, you may have fees even if it does not sell.

The seller has a choice to use Promoted Listings/Ad Fee Standard or not.
Don't blame others for your choice.
You can set the percentage on Promoted Listings higher or lower than eBay's suggestion.
Don't blame others for your choice.
Sales taxes are not charged on the item but on the transaction.
So a single item can be taxable many many times before it wears out totally-- and then there may be dump fees.

I understand the pain and point of your post - the point being THE FEES ARE HIGH - NOTED & MOST EMPHATICALLY AGREED - The pain comes when you feel you were taken advantage of, maybe because you blindly followed ebays "Recommendations" and promoted your item at the "recommended rate", thinking they must know best. I'm sure it was a shock since it may have been difficult to assess what your actual fees would be based on the watered down rates and vague method of presentation and explanation offered up front(without digging into the fine print) - You may think you are the only person this has ever happened to based on the replies to your post, but mark my words, your are NOT the exception to the norm - These boards are full of posts just like yours...
Now hopefully you learned a lesson that when dealing with a corporation, it is best to read and know EVERYTHING(literally) you are agreeing to before you click the "sign me up" button.

Rip off?
Perhaps. That's your opinion.
The fees are posted for all to see.
It should not be a surprise to you.
Fraud?
I don't think so.
Did ebay charge you for something they weren't supposed to?

Not me.
I like to live dangerously.

Just say no to promoted listings!
An OEM Silverado grill would sell without paying eBay a stupid ransom. You still would have lost about 15% to eBay, but its better than 25%. If something can't sell here without paying eBay extra, then don't sell it here.

Try selling that item in a brick-and-mortar store and see what it costs you with labor, utilities, taxes, business expenses, overhead, etc. Your profit margin after EBITA would probably not be more than 10%.
Consider you are also getting exposure to millions of buyers versus maybe hundreds or thousands in a store.

It's crazy but I see many cheer leaders coming out.
