eBay inviting lower offers on my listings without my permission

For the 2nd time in just a few days, I've just spent ages laboriously going through my listings and removing all the Best Offers which eBay 'helpfully' imposed on my account without asking my permission. I sell mostly unusual and out-of-print books on my site, and research each item very carefully, pricing them at the sum which I think they are worth. I don't take kindly to eBay telling any potential buyers that I might be willing to sell the book for half the original price. In many cases, the profit margin is so small once shop fees, postage and commission have been deducted that it would be uneconomical to sell the item at all. If I want to invite lower offers, I can tick the relevant box when I am uploading each listing; if I choose not to do so, I object to having it imposed on me. I'm sounding off here because eBay doesn't make it easy to complain to them direct - has anyone had any success in getting an answer?

You didn't ask a question, so I can't really give you an answer.

If you don't want eBay to add Best Offer to your listings, then you should use the Advanced Listing Tool. Supposedly, eBay adds Best Offer if you use the Quick Listing Tool instead.

The OP provided a lengthy but very clear description of  their issue  all relevant to their frustration about  the subject title AND DID  ask a  question in the  last  sentence as the y want to voice  their displeasure.  Here is that sentence in case you missed it.

" .............................. I'm sounding off here because eBay doesn't make it easy to complain to them direct - has anyone had any success in getting an answer?"

My thoughts are  if one calls eBay Customer  Service to voice their complaint the answer will be something like - "Oh  that is a "glitch"  our IT  is trying to fix it Good By And  Have A Good Day"  or some other  vague Popcorn like response.

The question that was asked was (direct quote): "Has anyone had success in getting an answer?"

Answer to what? there was no previous question posed, that this "answer" could be referring to. So, my initial statement was correct, and your mean, snarky, rude response was uncalled for.

In case you missed it, I also provided a positive suggestion I provided, for a way that the OP can avoid the irritation they are experiencing.

Thank you both for your helpful suggestions. I will try the Advanced Listing Tool to see if that makes a difference (though this has only just started happening & I have had a shop for nearly 3 years).

You are not alone. Lately when I list a ITEM up for BID and I need to go back in and make an adjustment to the item before the item is bid on MY STARTING BID PRICE is BEING AUTOMATICALLY CHANGED to what EBAY thinks it should BE !!  People need to pay attention to this QUICK bid change !! It's BOGUS MAN !! And EBAY doesn't have a CLUE as to what my items starting bid prices should be. I eliminate the small starting bids and get right to business ! I KNOW WHAT I WANT MY STARTING BIDS to BE, certainly not SOME EBAY COMPUTER GENERATED BID MAKER!! 😎 I don't need EBAY messing with my MONEY !!!😎

@lacemaker3

Here is the  complete  last sentence as provided  by the OP.  The  last  half  of the sentence asks  the  question and is referring to the first half of the sentence.

"I'm sounding off here because eBay doesn't make it easy to complain to them direct - has anyone had any success in getting an answer?"

I had the exact same problem(as did many). I would go thru get rid of "make an offer" the next thing I knew it was back. However I thought they fixed that, and it hasn't been a problem to me in awhile It used to get checked automatically and you had to remove it (no easy feat if you didn't know where it was)
Now I have check myself to make it active. I called customer service many times and maybe they did finally did something. So try calling them and have them walk thru it with you, there could be something they can fix. Good Luck

It appears ebay is adding the Best Offer option to fixed priced listings and auto relist if you are using the Quick Listing Tool.

To remove that option, go to My ebay > Selling > Listings > Active > Edit

You will now have to switch to the advanced listing form with more choices. That option is in the upper right corner. Once you switch, you will be able to scroll down and uncheck the Best Offer option and auto relist.

I do have best offer on virtually all my listings, but my gripe is eBay going in and lowering my auto-decline price to less than half of my BIN price. I don’t want to be bothered with ridiculous lowballs.  Ebay, stop your meddling in my business!

" has anyone had any success in getting an answer?"

A year ago or so, probably longer, people were asking why on these boards, and the response from ebay as reported here was that it's a glitch, everyone was saying it was a glitch, then later ebay announced that it was a test, then later it became a ebay protocol to alter some listings by placing the offer on listings.

I never asked. I just figure whatever ebay does, it's deliberate or a deliberate test, no glitches! Glitches seem a poor excuse.  I have never heard of them lowering the lowest price accepted, that's corrupted, probably a "glitch"  or maybe a test. laughing

Just an FYI (for future purposes) - there's a bulk edit feature for listings. You can easily remove/add/change things like shipping and best offer for all your listings at once. From Active Listings, click on the [] box above all your listings in the upper-left corner or click Edit > Edit All Listings. From there, select all your listings and the fields you want to edit for all of them. Hope this helps some!

Sometimes it is checked and you must uncheck it.  This is most likely to happen if you click from another person's sale that you want to sell one like it.  You might have to unselect some of their choices.
