I had a four coin set listed that had no interest. So I listed all four coins separately but forgot to delete the 4 coin listing. Yes, my fault. Got an immediate bid on an individual coin. Then got one on the four coin set I forgot to delete. So I deleted the 4 coin listing. The four individual listings all sold but eBay charged me a final value fee because I cancelled the listing. So eBay got paid twice for me selling the coins. Is there a way to get this money back? Know probably not. They make it so hard to communicate with them it’s ridiculous. And stupid.

You want to communicate to eBay that they should make an exception for your mistake?

I canceled a listing that had issues with the description. I was surprised with the $28 fee charged. I contacted eBay through the cumbersome email link they provide and they removed the fee. I guess since it was an honest mistake, they give you one mulligan. I think for future listings I need to cancel, I will cancel all the bids first, then cancel the listing.

I contacted eBay. Never heard anything back. Never saw anything about them refunding. They make it hard to figure things out. I’ve paid them $1000s in fees over the last 3 month. I don’t need **bleep** ones.

It's really not too hard to figure out why you're not getting a refund in this case. Would it make you feel better if they contacted you to tell you that you're out of luck on this one due to your own mismanagement of your inventory?

If the item wouldn’t have sold, I’d expect them to collect their fees. But they all sold so they got paid twice for the same items. So yes, I have a problem with that. Each item has a bar code. So they know they got paid twice.

They got paid twice for the same item because you sold one and stiffed one other buyer for the same item. So yes, eBay has a problem with that kind of thing.

It's not that hard to find and read eBay's policies and procedures concerning the fees they charge.
When you access eBay on a desktop or laptop, at the bottom of each page, in the finer print, you will find a link to eBay's User Agreement. When you click on that link, you will see a list of the main topics in that Agreement.
Click on Item 5, Fees and Taxes. Read the whole thing. Click on any hyperlinks within that info that might apply to your transactions.
Remember that all the fees you pay to eBay will probably be tax deductible. If it's accurate that you've paid eBay multiple thousands of dollars in fees in the last three months alone, you almost certainly have made some substantial income. I'm sure you always prepare your federal tax returns honestly, accurately, and completely. Take the appropriate deductions.

Perhaps not a solution.
per eBay that can/does still result in a fee being charged.

Food for thought, even if in the future you cancel bids then cancel the auction you will still be charged a final value fee based on the highest bid amount.

I guess I just need to be more careful with future listings.

eBay policy clearly states that you will be charged a fee for ending an auction listing with bids.
"You may be charged a final value fee based on the amount of the highest bid."

A quick search using the "help & contact" link to read the policy answers your question, so there is really no need to communicate with eBay about this.
eBay has this policy because (a) canceled auctions disappoint bidders and erode the reputation of the venue, and (b) to discourage bidders and sellers from conspiring to take transactions off eBay.

Ebay doesn't know you no longer have the item. As far as they're concerned (and the reason they charge for ended listings that had a bid), you ended the listing in order to take the sale off-site and circumvent fees.
Also, ending a listing after a bid has been made results in a disappointed buyer and BBE (bad buyer experience) and ebay doesn't want buyers to have bad experiences.
Although in your instance, that's not the case, it happened frequently enough that ebay changed policy. (You ARE allowed to end listings before any bids are made without charge or consequence.)
Next time, make sure you end listings that are no longer available. Consider the FVF you were charged the price of an education.
