eBay buyer restrictions should be at the control of the stores & not eBay

eBay has yet again cost me money on my auctions this week from restricting buyers who have strikes against them from other seller's pages. I don't need eBay to govern my store, I govern it myself. I spoke to several of the buyers who earlier this week were receiving "Buyer Restriction" messages when trying to bid on my items. I first spoke to an ebay customer service rep to find out why, all of them had strikes against them. Then I contacted all of the buyers and they stated they have done no non-paying or other. All of them stated they have had returns on shipping charges where they were over charged, if eBay counts that as a strike against them, then they are running a flawed system.  As well I don't care what buyers issues are with other stores, nor do we have much knowledge of those interactions. I think i am going to suspend my sales for a week. If I have to go strictly to Buy It Now sales, I'll just shut down my store.

It IS under your control. Just go to your selling preferences, go down to 'Manage who can buy from you', and deselect the appropriate check boxes.

Re: eBay buyer restrictions should be at the control of the stores & not eBay

Please do not treat me like I'm dumb. I have ZERO restrictions set. I spoke to an ebay customer support who said they had buyer restrictions on persons and those buyers had nothing of the sort, that is a problem with ebay.  I can control my own page. I can see by your feedback you don't do weekly auctions; I have had this issue one time before and it was after the last major storm hit Florida. I started selling full time Jan 2024- and have had over 3,000 sales in that timeframe all but 200 of my feedback score is from this year alone. That's a lot for a 1 man show. Buy It Now listers are not affected or if you are you wouldn't know unless a buyer messaged you.  That's how it came to my attention both times it has happened. Well over 20 existing buyers messaged me this past week, It's the new buyers (Who now think they are restricted from buying from me, "Lost business") or the existing that got upset assuming I blocked them, which is also a "loss of business".

Yeah, suspend your sales for a week.  That will teach eBay not to mess with you.

Okay, so you do not have that screening set up to restrict buyers with too many Unpaid slaps on their account.

@doubleupdiecast : If you look at your Buyer Requirements Activity Log, what do you see regarding blocked buyers and the reason(s) that they were blocked?

Re: eBay buyer restrictions should be at the control of the stores & not eBay

Given the way eBay coddles the buyers one of a couple of things are possible. Either eBay has yet another glitch from some recent system upgrade or there is more to what the buyers are telling you. EBay does, by policy, restrict some buyers for a number of reasons which generally involve policy violations of some type. These may possibly be buyers that you would not want to deal with in the first place.

On a couple of occasions I have had eBay actually cancel an order after I had shipped the item due to some issue with the buyer. While I retained the money from the sale I have no idea what ever happened with the items other than the tracking showed the items being delivered.

Re: eBay buyer restrictions should be at the control of the stores & not eBay

Hopefully you came here to try and get to the core of what is going on with your buyers.  What @frankenhobbit posted would have been my first guess as to what at least part of your issue is.  I'm confident they didn't mean to insult your intelligence.  They certainly didn't post the information that way.

As you can see, other members are willing to try and help you figure out what is happening, but please be respectful as we are just running with the information you provided.

I wouldn't be so quick to blame Ebay as it may or may not be something they have done.  Buyer Restrictions happen for a reason.  Did any of your buyers share with you EXACTLY what the messages they got on screen said?  There are a multitude of reasons they may get an error, so it would be important to know what error message they got.

"All of them stated they have had returns on shipping charges where they were over charged,..."  Now this to me is a really odd statement.  Buyers don't return shipping charges [don't get mad, I'm going by what you posted] nor do they pay for shipping when returning an item to a seller unless it was a Buyer's Remorse Return.  In some cases the buyer pays the return shipping.

OMG, suspending your sales are a bit of an over reaction to this issue.  I'm not sure what that does to resolve the issue.  But if it does make you feel better, then it is likely worth while.

Your buyers have not shared correct information with you or you misunderstood what they were saying to you.  While I know you are convinced this is an Ebay problem, it very well may be a buyer issue, and possibly with the payment source they are trying to use.  That is the most likely issue.

You can check your account and see if your buyers were blocked because they had too many unpaid strikes against them.  If they did, they would appear on this report that I provided a link below for as did @a_c_green in their post.
